Used sawadee.com/r24.org/thailandguidebook.com (not to mention all the other names that they use) to make a booking and was disappointed to note that even though the transaction was supposed to be in Thai Baht, their payment system is set up to, instead of charging YOUR card the amount in Thai baht (so that you can take advantage of the wholesale Visa/Mastercard rate), they do the currency exchange, at an unfavourable rate to yourself, and then charge you in your local currency. There is absolutely nothing to indicate that this will happen when you make the booking. When I queried it after looking at my internet statement, they tried to bamboozle me by telling me it was my bank and the exchange rate. Firstly, it could not be my bank if they charged my card in my local currency amd secondly and equally importantly, my bank levies no foreign exchange fees. When I pointed these facts out to them, correspondence from them ceased. Helpfully, my bank has agreed to refund the difference to me, as they know that, not only is there nothing on the site to indicate that this would happen and in addition, I didn't sign anything to agree that sawadee.com could do the exchange on my behalf. This is a relatively new SCAM going around, watch out for it in Spain, Thailand etc The points to note are; If in person; The vendor has to ask you which currency you wish to utilise BEFORE you are presented with a credit card slip. Online: There HAS to be information that the vendor or payment system will debit your card in another currency if they intend to do so. In my case, both the page I captured off the internet of my payment and the email receipt they sent to me showed the transaction in Thai Baht. This is simply a new scam with the vendor and bank can share in the extra commission they gain from the exchange rate and your expense. Check your receipts BEFORE you sign them and for online transactions, make it clear to them the currency you wish the transaction to be completed.

Also, if you book for example 6 nights at THB1000 a night through r24.org, you might expect to be billed THB6000. r24.org will actually charge you THB6200, because they add a THB200 "booking fee" which isn't disclosed until after you've booked. Not the cheapest place to deal with, but fast for confirmations. And not as smart as they might think they are.

Had a dreadful experince with these people.Offered a great rate for one of the "family" resort paces in Pattaya. The resorts own website clealry stated that an extra kids bed could be added in free. When I got my "offer" from sawadee it added 500 a night for the extra bed. No amount of argueing would make them see sense so I went elsewhere and wouldnt go back.

I used asiarooms.com and never had such problems. The rate stated is the rate you pay, no hidden charges and in many cases they are cheaper than r24.org (which is, by the way, the wholesaler for sawasdee.com, and others). The site hotelreslist.com gives some comparision among a few internet companies, incl. r24 and asiarooms. I would not always go with the cheaper, since you may save a few bhats but when getting to the hotel, you may find you don't have a room, especially during peak session and with value hotels. Cheers! Ap.-
