UTFSE That off my chest - I've checked it out because their ad is enticing - but totally misleading. Below is a copy of what "Mr Dave" had to say about it - I TOTALLY agree: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "I went to look at House by the Pond a few days ago. 1.) It is far, far, away from anything. There are no shops or restaurants nearby - none. It is about 2 miles from the nearest Skytrain station at Phrompong (Emporium). Remember that is 2 miles along cracked and broken sidewalks (footpaths). You can take a taxi or motorcycle taxi, of course, but would you want to every time you went out for even a meal? 2.) There is a "house" and there is a "pond" - you can see them out of the lobby window, but you won't be staying there. The actual accommodation is a very ordinary, drab, slightly run-down, apartment building. The rooms are fair at best. The view is of more similar buildings. 3.) The place is over-priced for what is offered. There are countless condo-tels like this around Bangkok, for less money. Apparently the nice name, "House by the Pond", is an excuse to double the rates. 4.) I can find no reason, none, to recommend this place. Mr. Dave Bangkok September, 2004"

Actually, I'd say Mr Dave was only barely right. The location IS remote, has no shops around it, and is far down the soi, but not 2 miles from the BTS- more like under one. And the the whole setup is anything but drab. Far from it. I'd say your Mr. Dave had all of zero other apatment complex experiences to compare it to in Bangkok. House By the Pond has a step back in time, funky charm to it, actually. Lots of gardens, antiques, lanscaping, water features, etc. It's actually a complex of several buildings. Almost every unit is unique, too. I work with a guy that's been living there for some months and he's happy- but then he's keen on walking his way all over the city. If you're not that type then so be it. Oh, and on their pricing: they are competetive for what they offer- short term rental. But from the sound of it, this Mr. Dave sounds like a wise cookie. Ask him to write another email and give us a list of all these condo-tel options at half the cost. My money says he can't...
