Dream Hotel opening

The owner of the five-star Dream Hotel New York is preparing to open a Bangkok branch on Aug 1.
The 100-room Dream Hotel Bangkok on Sukhumvit Soi 15 will be the first five-star Dream outlet in Asia. New York hotelier Vikram Chatwal opened the Dream Hotel New York in 2004.
General manager Olivier Delangre said the Dream Hotel would cater to travellers seeking a unique accommodation experience.
"Though relatively small, Dream will be unique, exclusive and luxurious," he said.
The boutique hotel expects to attract mainly leisure travellers. Mr Delangre said its key markets would include Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Mr Delangre described the rooms at Dream as "whimsically modern".
Besides restaurants and bars, Dream will also feature a spa and other services and amenities, with room rates starting at US$129 (4,900 baht) a night.

If it's anything like the one in NYC, I don't think I'd pay that amount. I would prefer alot more luxury of accomodations for that pricetag. The place tries to look fancy by sticking blue flourescent lighting under the bed & desk, but the actual accomodations aren't really up to par w/some of the other 5 star hotels I've researched judging from the pictures alone. Just my $.02.

Is this the one that is being constructed right at the corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 15? If so, that must be why they are working 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When I was there in March they were putting the foundation in.
Will be interesting to see their occupancy rates with prices of $129/day+, given that the Manhattan (very girl friendly) just 100 feet away can be had sometimes for under 1000bt with advanced Internet booking.
Price vs. quality? Only the punter can determine which is most important.

Isn’t ‘Dream Hotel’ the new name for the Somerset Hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 15?
Let’s hope that it remains guest friendly and that the rack rates are substantially discounted, otherwise I shall not be trying the ‘Dream’ when it opens.

I know Olivier well working in Phuket at the Twin Palms Resort.............pretty much a joke of a GM in my opinion. I know the Chef they have hired as well and let me just say, absolutely not up to par with the expected prices. As far as being GF.........probably, but not without a few looks from the BS HI-SO staff they will try to employ.
