99% of EVERYTHING is for sale/rent in LOS.
Just ask,, and be ready to negotiate price/ services, maybe you can get the pool and 2 girls on a bulk purchase discount?

Ambassador.. you can use the fitness center and the pool.. they have daily rates or you can buy like 5 or 10 passes.. they are cheaper.. also monthly memberships..

I have a yearly and it is really cheap.. as I only spend aobut 4-5 months a year there, not as cheap, but decent if old fashioned..

Try the pool at The Crown Hotel, Sukhumvit Soi 29.
Very large, very clean, very cheap, pleasant staff.

So, someone *has* stayed at the Crown Hotel. I've often admired it- from inside the BTS carriage as I whisked by- and recently popped in for a name card and to solicit their rates. When the front desk clerk came back with Bt500 I couldn't stop grinning. Is that a steal, or what.

So, Ladyboyblue, how are the rooms? Is it the steal it appears to be?

I probably ought to reply too to the OP question. Many may not realise if you were or weren't a guest- depending on how much agility you use to slip from street clothes to trunks- and while some might allow it, it would certainly behoove you to order from the bar or room service menu once there. e.g. - a little revenue streaming goes a long way in the city of angels.

Dear Skip: The Crown Hotel was originally built for American junior-grade officers on leave from the Vietnam War.
Its construction paralleled the massive building of hotels throughout Sukhumivit, Silom, and Suriwong roads from 1961-1976, mainly to cater to the very lucrative GI rest and recreation/intercourse and intoxication traffic.
The Crown is okay but not perfect.
They have very honest, long-term staff.
The rooms are certainly acceptable but I never liked their coffee shop.
However, the pool is great.
For 500 Baht it is hard to find any hotel in Bangkok with a clean pool on-premises.
For that reason alone, I would say, give the place a try.
Good luck.

Ladyboyblue,

My, that placed it nicely into an historical niche. I am delighted that you took the time to elaborate, thank you. It also affirmed the sense of deja vu I got when I made the initial inquiry.

From inside the lobby, as I looked through the glass plate windows at the courtyard with its central pool it struck me oddly as a slice of Americana Ranch, and just off Sukhumvit no less. And now I know why. No wonder it harkened me back...

I'm suddenly finding it odd that no one here has ever mentioned it as a viable lodging option. It's locale is fantastic, really, given its proximity to the Asoke MTR/BTS conjunction, Soi Comboy, Emporium, Wash. Sq., and Soi 33, 20 & 22.

Skip, for the money I do believe you will The Crown Hotel. For longer-term stays, I can recommend even cheaper, but clean, safe places. However, there will be no pools.
Just let me know.
Mr. Dang (honest, that is his name) is the manager of The Crown Hotel.
Excellent English and very congenial.
On-premises taxi driver is Mr. Teng, an old-timer from way back in the American GI R&R days. Also, excellent English.
Let me know how all this turns out for you.
Good luck.

Dear Mel: Here is all the info I have on the Crown Hotel:

First of all, we are discussing The Crown Hotel on Soi 29, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok and NOT its sister hotel on Soi 8, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok.
Okay, here is what I have:

The Crown Hotel
503 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 29
Bangkok, 10110, Thailand
Phone: 258-0318/258-0319 (ask for Mr. Dang, manager)
Fax: 662-258-4438

Sad to say, no email address or website of which I am aware.
You will find that a lot of these old Sino-Thai hotels have not yet made the transition to the electronic age.
If you are visiting Thailand from, say, March 15th up until November 15th, I would honestly guess that an advance reservation will not be necessary. The Crown has many rooms and does not fill up entirely in low season, no way.
I wish I could be more helpful.
As mentioned earlier, I know of other hotels cheaper than the Crown, even a bit nicer, but they have no pools and may or may not be as well-located.
Let us know what kind of luck you have.
