Tried priceline two months ago and got Amari Watergate for $80 a night. I'd rather stay near suk. so was wondering if anyone has gotten a good bid?

At biddingfortravel.com someone bid back in Aug for a Dec stay and got the Marriott Resort & Spa for $65 a night. The problem with this property is that it's still listed as a 4* and most people who bid in this area end up at the Holiday Inn.

At betterbidding.com someone got the Mayfair Marriott Executive Apartment for $125 a night. The bidder didn't save too much compared to the hotels own website but it's good to see a new property come up for bkk PL.

I'm assuming Holiday Inn is not GF friendly but the other 2 choices are ?

I have no idea whether the hotels are GF friendly or not, but rather was just trying to answer joon's ?

The Holiday Inn and Marriott are located in the same bid-zone and at the same star level. More often than not the bidder will end up with HI. The price paid paid for the HI when this happens can usually be had for around the same price as what's listed on most travel websites. With the exception that when you win on PL you don't earn points, aren't entitled to free breakfast and are not able to request a specific room type in advance.

In other words...prob not a good idea to bid in this area for a 4* property unless you feel like rolling the dice on the odd chance you might get the Marriott.

Anyone been trying 5 star in the Sukhumvit area lately?

I remember a couple years ago it worked pretty well to get the JW Marriott for around $80/ night...

Finally got a 5 star win. Tried Sukhumvit at 62 (wishful thinking) and didn't go through. Added Riverside/Silom and bid went through...wonder how low I coulda gone!!! Might try and book again for a night or two to see if I can get it in the 40's or 50's.

Marriott Executive Apartments Sathorn Vista. Came to about 75 a night with tax. Hotel is located on Sathorn Soi 3. If I'm not mistaken I think the hotel is fairly new.

Marriott rate is 3,300 or 3,900 THB incl. tax. Not staying till the end of of the month so will post a follow up review then.

Had a really great time at this hotel. Definitely brand spanking new and no problems checking in as a priceline customer. Hotel is just off sathorn right at the beginning of soi 3 and close to the somerset.

Full kitchen with the works, dining table, couch, chair and work desk--which had outlets that catered to all types of plugs. Plenty of closet space, separate washer and dryer (not one of those combo deals), and bathroom with rain shower and regular shower head plus a tub (albeit a small one).

Only complaint about the room was that there were not two bathrooms or access to the bathroom via living area so you dont have to go through bedroom. If you're entertaining and the bedroom is being occupied better hope no one's shy about having people walk in and out!! Also the bed seemed a bit short...or maybe it was just the 8 pillows that made it seem so.

Pool was a little funky as it had green tiles and made the water seem odd but one thing I liked was that it was salt water and did not use blinding amounts of chlorine like some pools. Also had a decent amount of sun---the sun was only blocked for about an hour or so in the late afternoon. For those that dont like sun there were shaded areas as well.

Service was fantastic and full of plenty of cute young staff eager to please (not in that way but then again I didnt try---although I should have with the maid as she was super cute). Hotel was GF and had no problem bringing in guests at all hours. Cafe/Restaurant connected to the hotel had just opened four days prior to my arrival and although good the service was a bit slow.

No trouble getting a taxi. Usually only had to wait a minute or two and the hotel staff always made sure the taxi driver turned on the meter before you left.

One stickler they get you on is internet. It's like 200 an hour, 650 a day, 3k a week or 9k a month. Who pays 9k a month for internet....yikes!!!

All in all I would absolutely stay again but maybe next time go for a two-bedroom if Im trying to have a good time with extra guests in the room. I tried bidding on extra night all the way up to $60 and only at that amount was I given the counter offer of raising my bid by $17. I declined, rebid $62 and it went through. You don't earn many marriott points when staying here so you might as well book via priceline as there's no real benefit that I found to using the hotel's website.

Can you now bid on a specific property? Until a couple of days ago bidding at Priceline was on a per zone basis. If it still remains the same, how did you manage to bid for a specific hotel?

No you can't bid specific.....but at the 5 star level in Riverside/Silom area this Marriott is the only hotel that has come up. The only other properties are places like the Oriental, Shangri-La and Banyan Tree and those haven't come up in years.

You most likely can use the Sukhumvit area as a re-bid zone depending on your requirements as the 5 stars there are Sheraton, JW and the Westin (and probably won't come up anyways with a bid of $62).

Whatever you do don't bid 5 star in the Siam area as you most assuredly will get the Amari and end up paying a rate that doesn't save you anything.....although the Marriott Mayfair serviced apartments have come up there in the past I think it's just not worth the risk.

In my opinion until further notice all low-ball bids 5 star ($62) in the riverside area will get you the Marriott Sathorn Vista.
