Sometimes I have been using the internet booking for hotels when arriving at a new place. Once you know a hotel it is better to deal direct. Sawadee/Res24 is a site I have used a couple of times. So I decided to try again when going to a resort in Thailand. Booked the hotel and it was confirmed. They even claimed one night was "free" even though 2 breakfasts was charged - which I never use anyway and was not given the chance of cancelling. Ok - perhaps I will survive that.
But in pure interest I surfed around a bit more after that and found that Asiarooms was quite a bit cheaper for the same hotel! And that even without claiming a "free night"!
So I confronted Sawadee with that fact and got a really snotty reply back where their rep claimed that Asiarooms was basically scamartists who had a lot of complaints and did not have the setup with the hotels. The guy at Sawadee even had the "kindness" to advise me to book at Asiarooms next time so I could see for myself they were not up for real. Not a word about the fact that S really had cost me more money than if booked with AR. Ok - my fault that I did not surf around more before booking. But after all S is linked to these pages and one could expect more than a high price and snotty remarks when addressing the issue!
So in kind advise to all boardmembers: DO check more places than Sawadee when in the need to use an internet booking service!
To me it has just showed that I will most likely not use these services any more and instead mail or call the location direct in order to deal for a price.
The least thing we need is an agency who thinks they can get away with higher prices and at the same time respond to you as if you were a stupid kid! At the moment I am quite upset with Sawadee and personally they are history. Will not use them again. Obviously they are so big and succesful that they can care less about that and in between treat customers like shit!
I am angry and this may not mean anthing to you guys - just take the advise to check more than this site for your future bookings! Prices sure differ!

I always check multiple sites, though I often end up with using AtSiam.com -- professional, on time, and usually best price, or same price, than others - the prices include all taxes, etc... and they even allowed me to cancel a booking once.
One time, AsiaRooms was A LOT cheaper - whereas I usually pay 2,080 Baht for my regular place via AtSiam.com, in this particular instance, AsiaRooms had a deal for the exact same arrangement for 1,680 Baht - I booked my three week stay without a second thought, and was not disappointed.
Not sure what hotels you deal with directly, but I found that while it's a good idea to make arrangements with the hotels for special requirements (like a high-floor, or a room facing the pool), in general you do NOT get better rates than some of the booking brokers, by dealing directly with the hotel.
Of course, YMMV.
Still, AsiaRooms.com and AtSiam.com, are my main checkpoints, with LateStays.com for a quick check in comparison.

I have used Asiarooms, Wotif.com, Latestays.com and http://www.thaihoteldiscount.com/ and the slightly different in name Thaihotelsdiscounts.com (mentioned by Peterpan) and never had much of a problem with any of them.
For personal service Thaihotelsdiscounts.com run by a BM was second-to-none.
Got screwed by Sawadee/Res24 over Xmas New Year bookings for Pattaya 04/05 and (same same as Jojje) can't say enough bad things about them - never again would be too soon (posted that on here but many moons ago) Enjoy

There are hundreds of sites out there for Thailand hotels.
Some appear cheaper than others thou in reality are not. Eg they advertise in Thai Baht, but when you come to the secure booking screen they advise that your credit card will be debited in Usd or another currency, which has been padded to ensure no loss in currency flucuations. In my opinion this is false advertising.
Asiarooms do this, and they must be doing it very well as they are one of the most successful online travel sites today, with over 250 Million USD sales per year. They are doing over 30,000 bookings per month..
With this size of business, some aspect of customer would have to be sacrificed. Sure you may appear to get 10 Baht per night cheaper, but would you still get the service when something goes wrong?
I believe you can only see how good a company is, after you experience theirafter sales servIn my opinion, customers should get the best most helpful service available and aftersales should be no differentice. Will you still get a fast reply/help when you really need it.
For me after sales means a great deal especially in Thailand. because usually they is none. If it means paying a bit more then so be it. Sure some of you guys have had this shitty experience before?

For local deals, my best choices are:
1) Sawadee: fast to confirm booking, good prices, good service. Never got any problem
2) ATSiam: good but not the biggest selection; sometimes slow to confirm bookings
3) Asiarooms: good for a double check, plan B

Thanks guys - seems this little debate came up with some good advices and the point that I felt in back of my head: Sawadee´s claim that Asiarooms are just "no good" is false, as can be noted on the entries here. I am not such a great user of internet bookings since I am a regular on most places I vist and can get a good deal direct and dont need to pay until there - but when I do next booking I will surely use AR and test! Not least because of the shit attitude from Sawadee when writing to them!
