CHEDI CHIANG MAI- what a place- cost a small fortune -didnt care- gorgeous rooms- a giant pool along river to die for- great breakfast buffet- handed me a lap top to use around pool / no charge- one of the two times my Ubon TGF almost wet her pants- walk to night market and many really good restaurants on the river - dont consider anything else in 5 star
SHERATON PATTAYA- the other time TGF almost wet her pants- view from huge room over the many layered pools down to water is unreal- many free computers to use--perfect beach-on the plus side you are totally away from the wonderful sleeze of Pattaya- negative ( if no TGF) is you are way away from the sleeze of Pattaya- great buffet breakfrast- and they grill lobster, shrimp and crab each night- free computer use- service perfect
MARRIOTT- Pattaya- you are IN the action- TGF loves shopping center attached - buffet breakfast quite good- (you wouldnt eat dinner there- with so much else cheaper around-) rooms are fine- bathrooms small- gym (in shopping center is great) --their recently rebuilt pool with swim up bar is a big plus- happy hour at 5 (they hit a gong that would wake the dead)
MONTIEN PATTAYA- I used to stay here when I first started coming to Thailand- but rooms were only fair- pool and gym not as nice as 2 above- and there is noise from Hard Rock Hotel next door- as it is mid island, you are futher from walking street but nearer sois 6 and 8
MERIDIAN- Phuket- on a private beach- 7 min from Bangla Rd, so you are away from the noise --- shuttle runs 10 times/day 260 baht r/t--- beautiful rooms- great beach- 4 pools- wonderful beach bar- huge buffet breakfast--------- Negatives- expensive to use computers- and the shuttle should be free
VICTORIA ANGKOR- Seam Reap- if you want to get a real feeling of place- don"t even consider the new 5 stars that could be located anywhere- 3 story redone ancient building with iron grate elevator from the year of the flood- huge beautiful rooms- fab pool lit at night for pre bed splash- breakfast to die for- service wonderful- only negatives- computer use expensive ( but there was place around corner that charged 25 cents/hour) and the hotel was less in price than BKK but breakfast was $15extra/pp- Seam Reap was well worth the trip (see my thoughts in Cambodia section) -- You have got to love a country that uses American dollars and only uses their currency to give small change-- Cheers

Pegasus- never stayed there- looked at it- its just too loud - I want to sleep around pool- not hear blaring music- the rooms are just ok- it would be fourth
Bono- he he- I never had problems with girls at Montien Pattaya--- At the Bangkok Montien- a guard would not let a short time up in the elevator until I paid 1000 baht- I called the manager and told her I would not pay- but would go to short time hotel- and never return to Montien- she was fine with that- and bye bye Montien for me

I was there july 2007 and they even said to me when I checked in at the hotel, so did not try to take anyone in, never saw a tg at the pool either

Tried the DUSIT D2 in pattaya- and fled after one night- hotel not soundproofed- and the bars across street will keep you up until 2am- the rooms are maybe too cool for me- but not plush- staff walks around in what looks like pajamas- good breakfast- pass in future
