This trip I've been adventurous trying out the 5* Wotif deals in CM and BKK. For CM, the 2 5* deals they have are very good at 2300B and 2400B. The 2300 chic hotel is the Dusit D2 which I think was a great hotel and it includes free wifi. The 2400 deal described an ultra luxurious hotel which ended up being Le Meridien which was also extremely nice but did not include internet access. Dusit D2 didn't really feel like a 5* hotel but it's a 4+. Location wise, these 2 are hard to beat for CM.

So back to BKK I tried my luck with a 5* hotel in Sukhumvit area. I already knew the 2800 baht deal was the GM, already stayed there, wanted to try something else. There is currently a 2900 baht deal with this description "This stylish five-star hotel fuses cutting-edge sophistication with contemporary design aesthetics and a central location in downtown shopping district to create an experience that is a cut above the rest in its class." It really made me wonder and so I booked it. Turns out it's the Renaissance by Marriott. Read some really good reviews on it and after struggling to find the entrance which is off of Phloenchit(Sukhumvit) right before the Rajdamri intersection, I pull up and was impressed. This hotel deserves an award for design, it's modern, chic, and elegant. The room is really nice, better than JW Marriott and more modern. Awesome bed, bathroom with huge glass windows and motorized curtains.

Location wise you can walk to the malls because you're basically at Erawan, 4 faced buddha. This is a true 5* hotel IMO, unlike the Grand Millennium which tries hard. The biggest drawback as with a lot of 5* hotels is that internet is expensive, they want about 650 baht per day so add that to your tally if you need to get on the net. Also, the pool looks amazing, but it's under repair right now and won't be ready for another week or so.

So if you like staying at the JW Marriott but feel it's aging, this hotel should be on your shortlist.
