Hi Considering the ambassador for next trip because its much cheaper than my usual serviced appt. Any comments on this place? Also, any ideas why prices are so varied from place to place? Agents seem to be much cheaper than going direct to the hotel - so far I've been offered between US$23 and US$38 per night for the SAME double occupancy room???? Any one know the best place to book it?

Whitespider......I stayed at the Ambassador last month and had a large room in the tower. Booked thru the referral you get from Ambassador's website. I paid 1200 bht per night with buffet breakfast which was a very good spread. When I wanted to extend the price was 1500 bht at the desk, so I went on the net and extended at original price. Staff is extreemly friendly and helpful. (Except to loud argumentative Arabs, then they just clam up and smile.) The first night I brought in a gal and walked right past security to the elevator My gal came in on her own the second night and security called me on the phone for an ok and she came up by herself. On the third night he escorted her to my door with a big smile. A 200 bht tip brought out even a bigger smile. I call that visitor friendly. Ambassador is just a few steps from Thermae, brisk walk to Biergarden and Grace's and shopping. The outdoor garden adjacent to the hotel had a fantastic band and loads of girls. IMHO you can't go wrong for the price. The hotel is older eligant style decor, but immaculate. Three resturants, pool on second floor and several lively bars. 200 bht taxi ride to upscale MP's but there is plenty of activity nearby to keep you occupied. Any more detailed questions, just e-mail me Tom

yes, indeed for the price, ambassador is good. when i stayed there a year ago, a friend had to pay a charge when he brought a girl. the doorman, which stand by the elevator, are always looking for these girls. i dunno nowadays. i switched over to the Royal President service apartments. cost is twice as much at about $50US, but i recommend staying in the Saphire suite, which is another building away from the lobby. more quiet. and as long as you tip the doorman about 50 - 100 baht every time you bring a girl. they are extremely courteous, and will even salute you every time you enter/leave. the rooms, which are one bedroom, are very big and include a kitchen and large bath. also a small stereo w/cd and a tv. are included. taxis are easier to get compared to ambassador. so, if oyu don't mind paying the extra, which might have gone to the hotel for the girl, then i recommend the Royal President Service Apartments. I have heard mixed reviews about the Grand President. so you may want to stay away from that sister hotel.

Stayed at Ambassador about 3 times for a total of about 10 days last March/April. Real crap shoot on rooms. Tower is best but some of the rooms have that smell of mildew...others are fine. Lots of arrogant Indians staying there when I was there. Felt sorry for the Thais that had to try a please them. Smaller, cleaner and cheaper hotel about 1 block farther on Soi 11 is Federal....costs about 900B per nite. Guest friendly and you don't have to book double.

Thanks for replies guys - Sup', I too always stay at either Royal President or President Park appartments (Grand President is OK by all accounts) as i do work for this chain when in Bkk. My question was more about the varying rates available from the hotel and "agents". For the days I am there next the hotel has quoted me $38 for a Tower room, but internet booking sites have the same rooms available at lower rates and these seem to vary enormously - I'm going to start a different thread on this point. - Thanks again
