Hi
Can anyone point me in the direction of a booking agent who offers CONSISTENTLY competitive rates. I ask because I have just tried to book Ambassador for a friend (close to action and all that) and they quoted me $38 a night. Several internet booking sites offer much lower for the SAME room but they vary so much ($23 - $35) but ALL cheaper than booking direct with the hotel!!??. What I'd like to be able to do is go to just ONE agent each time I'm making a booking, in the knowledge that I will be offered a competitive rate by them for whichever hotel I choose.
Any info greatly received.

Planet Holiday they advertise on this board is a good company to deal with plus BK makes a few baht each time one of us uses them.

Last year I came to the conclusion that there is NOT one on-line booking agent that is always cheapest.
The only thing to do is choose the hotel then shop around. I thought that maybe the cheaper quotes might get poorer rooms but this doesn't seem to be the case. Last trip I booked into Manhattan hotel, didn't like the room so they just smiled and moved me.
I suppose there would only be one agent if one was always the cheapest on all hotels. I think that some agents are cheaper at some hotels since they have managed to get a better deal with the hotel.
So shop around is the only answer.

That is the conclusion I have come to, but just wondered  I will continue to stay at president Park (lets face it free is cheaper than any agents prices) but I have got so many mates "hooked" on visiting LOS after talking to me and reading this forum and PP is not the cheapest of places as even the "deal" I can get for them is around US$35. Quite happy to use Planet Holiday if BKk makes a few coppers, indeed we have just done so without knowing that.

Nope there is no internet agent that always offers the most competitive room rate.
Just search for the best rate using GOOGLE, best hotel search engine by far in my experience.
The downside with the cheaper prices these agents offer is that you may be requested to pay for your full stay in advance, this can be an issue if your plans change. However given the rates are significantly cheaper, it is well worth it.

I keep talking about the Federal Hotel and I forgot to mention that the travel agent in that hotel really rips you off. Charged 3 of us 700 B each for a bus trip to Chaing Mai. We came back on out own for about half each.....when I went to have my heart to heart chat with him upon my return he claimed it was for the 15 minute cab ride to the bus station and that the bus company riped us off.....ASSHOLE!

One more thing, it was his mistake because I was at the Federal for 2 weeks and the main topic at the pool with the guests was his prices. Guess he was glad when I left.

Got ripped off years ago by the agents at the Fed....took a girl down to Koh Samed but on the way back the minibus was overbooked....room for only one of us....so we ended up taking the bus back. Pretty peed off by the whole experience but I did get a refund eventually. Never used them again.
