Hey guys: Making my plans for BKK next week (I love the ring to that) and came across a few hotels within the same price range. Would like your recommendation on preferences based on girl-friendliness, clean rooms, in-room safes, security, and good (staff) service. Thanks!

Sol Twin Towers (Siam)
Regency Park (Sukhumvit)
Jade Pavilion (Sukhumvit)
Tai Pan (Sukhumvit)
Manhattan (Sukhumvit)

I've stayed at the Sol Twin Towers, nice 3 star hotel, about 10 minute walk to National Stadium skytrain. Book a double otherwise have to pay a joiner fee. I've stayed there twice. I would stay there again. Clean rooms, safety deposit box downstairs. Staff very pleasent.

Have stayed at Manhattan, Tai Pan, Nana and Ambassador, all on Sukhumvit. All are pretty similar, reasonable rooms and guest friendly.

My slight preference would be Manhattan but it appears to be full. Two weeks ago I was meeting a guy who was flying in from Hong Kong and he was told the hotel was full by his agent. But he did actually manage to get a room 'cos I was already tin the hotel and I just asked at the desk for him. Maybe his agent had a full allocation of rooms atr there price???

I guess it is Martha Stewart not Marsha. She is a very nasty woman.

Dave:  Are the rooms nice and clean at the Manhattan?  When you said guest-friendly, does that mean the "wink" from the doorman and thats it or the ID dropoff at the front desk?

Hi TD
yeah the rooms are fine. They have in room security safes.
I was only asked on one occasion by a new and enthusiastic security guy to show the girls ID, whilst he checked that I had a double booking.

They did not keep her ID but rather apologised that the new security guy challenged me. I had already tipped another Guy 100 baht to keep a parking place for my friend who lives in BKK and needed a spot for his car when he came to meet up.

So I wouldn't worry at all about hassle if you follow the rule of booking a double.  OK ??

Dave
