Hi Guys!!

Just stumbled across this Forum and have to say that it is an excellent source of information.
I have always wanted to go to Thailand and have decided to take the plunge at the end of October.
I am going to spend a few nights in Bangkok and then move on to Pattaya.
The thing that has me head spinning is the vast amount of hotels and being a total newbie to Thailand ,i haven't got a clue where to stay.
My choice for Bankok is 'Royal City Hotel'
And for Pattaya 'Sunbeam Hotel'
Can anyone please tell me if these two hotels are central and of good standard and any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Chuck,
Maybe for around 1K your best choices in Bangkok can be: Manhattan Hotel, Nana Hotel, Majestic Suites as maybe the most recommended....check out the list and prices available at the homepage of this site and u can get more choices. The recommendation given above is based on 1. Price (resonable), 2. Guest-Friendly policy (a must), 3. Location (near the FUN) along Sukhumvit Rd., etc....This issue has been discussed a lot and you may search for the info accordingly before taking your decision.

We know that budget is a constraint sometimes. However, if you can afford an up-scale place with same characteristics listed above then you can try The Marriot Hotel, the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit (both in Sukhumvit) and the Hyatt Erawan (Rajdamri Av.) as good choices.

In Pattaya, you may wish to refer to the thread PATTAYA/Hotels in this forum. Lots of places for different sort of budgets. Have a ncie time!!

BigDUSA, I've tried the LIDO Hotel. That was good and absolutely guest-friendly hotel for B/.600/night. Good air con service, mini bar to cool your OWN drinks, clean towels and a view not looking the wall of other buildings....However, I am aware of your recommendation of the Flipper Lodge in Soi 8. I will try this one next time and post few comments. Seems that the in-room massage service at Flipper's is a bonus!!

pinga,
I think you will like the Flipper. Another nice hotel Sabai Inn, Soi 2. I made a mistake and b/f a girl from beer bar on same Soi. B/G has fighter pilot eyes and the homing sense of a heat seeking Predator Drone. I plan on seeing the B/G except I'm on a different Soi.

Hi!!

Thanks guys for the reply...it's all a bit daunting to me as this will be my first time and i'm going on my own which also worries me from a safety aspect of things because i have heard so many bad stories and maybe that is all they are but it is still on my mind.
I will continue to browse this excellent forum for all the info possible...it's only a month away now so i think i had better get things moving quick.

Cheers

Chuck

If you stay in Sukhumvit area, the chances of getting ripped off or having any problems are remote.

pinga has mentioned Manhattan Hotel. I have stayed there and it is great for location.

Big D has mentioned Flipper Lodge in Pattaya. Again it is fine.

Just ask the bros what you are looking for and I am sure you will get some good comment.

Safety for the most as far as foreigners go is a none issue. BKK, Pattaya and most of Thailand is very safe. Use common sense and don't walk around flashing wads of money. I go to LOS by myself and never had a safety problem.
