Ok, before I cope any flaming let me point out that I have read ALL the threads in "Hotel Issues" looking for a hotel that appeals to me. (I even have 2 x A4 sheets of paper full of notes) 
I have read peoples opinion on which hotel they prefer and of course these have varied greatly depending on taste, style, budget, etc...
Without having been to Bangkok (or Thailand for that matter) I have no idea what the standards are for these hotels. Here is a list to give you an idea at what I'm looking for:
* Pool (this is a MUST have)
* In room safe
* Guest friendly
* Gym/Fitness centre
Ok, I am looking at the Sukhumvit area with a price tag of AU$75 - AU$100 (approx US$40 - US$55 or B1600 - B2200).
I have found hotels fitting the description but they have been out of my price range. I'm not asking for people to go and look for me but to let me know if they have stayed at a place fitting the description (Even places that come close would be nice).

Your requirements are very reasonable for 40-55USD in BKK. But one thing is missing - location! Where do you want to be? BKK is not a small city and the traffic could be pretty bad. I guess, you should decide the location base on what you like, gogo bars, major bath houses or nightclubs, or even pick up at RCA.
By the way, is guest friendly = no extra charge for the ladies? Actaully, people give very different opinion about if a hotel is lady friendly.

Check out the Sol Twin Towers, 10 minute walk to the sky-train. They are in your price range have a pool, gym and spa. They have safe deposit boxes and if you book a double they are guest friendly. Nice 3 star hotel for the price. I would and will stay there again.

69er - When I say guest friendly I am refering to having no extra charge for my guest. As with location, I am looking at the Sukhumvit area near Nana.
BK - Thanks, I didn't know you had the hotels grouped by areas too Cheers.
BigDUSA - Sol Twin Towers sounds alright. How far is that from, say, Nana? Is it walking distance? I want to be able to spend as little time in traffic as I can. Thanks

MrNobody, just trying to be as useful as possible.
From your criteria above, Bel-Aire Princess seems to fit the bill, I don't think they have a gym, but you can go to Landmark (which is about 100m from Bel-Aire) and use their gym facilities (Fitness First).

I stayed in Somerset Hotel, in Sukhumvit road. it is decent. Guest friendly. Actually no one can even notice you when you enter from the ground floor to your desired floor, because reception is on first floor, and they don't have time to look upon you. Yes it guest frindly. rate is approx. US$37 double bed with break fast.

Sky-train from nearest station Sol Twin Towers (National Stadium) is about 10 minute ride to Nana Station. Soi Cowboy is the next station. Sky-train can take you to Patpong. I use it as much as possible. BTW Sol TWin is 10 minute walk to National Stadium.

You could do worse than look at a Centrepoint serviced apartment. Centrepoint Langsuan or Centrepoint Petchburi 15. Apart from the fact they are not on the Sukhumvit road, but nearby, they should exceed your spec. I think they also have a late afternoon checkout. It may be 5pm. Do check. www.centrepoint.com
