I agree with you!!
Even though, this hotel might say guest friendly, when I stayed there they were NOT.
1. I booked on the internet and the price for single and double was the same. When I wanted to bring a female friend up to room to watch the NFL on tv, the manager was a total jerk and hassled me, as well as my guest. The female was not a working female and just a friend. Anyways, he charged me either 500 or 800 baht so she could come up to the room just to watch tv. And had the balls to tell me if i want to watch tv to watch it in the lounge. The next morning I complained to the front desk about him and they appologized. They also changed my room from a single to a double .. no extra charge.
2. The hotel security also hassled a "guest" of mine. They followed us up to Mingles bar while checking to find out if I had book a double occupancy. They actually just stood a couple feet away from our table with their walkitalki's. Once they found out that it was a double, they smiled and left.
So ... I would suggest staying somewhere else.

Your experiences at the Atrium echo the same unfriendly behavior I experienced at the Amari Watergate (nearly verbatim). I've decided to stay away from their chain -- the manager at the Watergate had the same pin-headed attitude you described at the Atrium.

The hotels have good reasons to keep bargirls out. However, they should make their policy on "guests" very clear beforehand, and should treat them (and you)with dignity and respect. Being hassled for taking a friend who is not dressed like a tramp up to your room "to watch TV" is just low, trying to extort money for this is even lower.

On the positive side you have the New York MP right outside and Mona Lisa MP just up the street, plus Siam Hotel Coffee Shop (late night pickup location) operating thru the night and if need be the nearby Siam Hotel can be used as a ST hotel ... so all depends on how attractive your package terms are...
The location is a bit off centre however, the consensus seems to be Sukhumvit is preferable if price etc is equal.
