Are there any online booking agents that are better than others ? I guess shopping around is the key.
Are their any that should be avoided, or have given problems previously??

I've used Asiarooms.com quite a bit and the prices are usually very cheap. Sometimes you can't get the rooms though (not because they aren't available, but because the hotels reject the lowest rates and try to get you to take a better room.. personally I think this is a big problem in BKK in general). Worth a try, and the father in advance that you book the better. The times where I've had problems were all last minute day before bookings..

I have used asiarooms.com and asia-hotels.com. Asiarooms' price is more competitive. And guess what, all the reservations are routed to and booked by Diethelm travel. You can go to Diethelm.com web site and download the hotel list (price, room-type,etc...) in PDF. There is one thing i don't understand is in the list, column Remarks marked "except asian market" or "except Thai residents", etc.. Not sure you can book directly with diethem though, and dithelm also have the local office in thailand. Be in LOS soon. Hope to catch some of the bros.

I prefer using the planetholiday site.
I also go to the actually hotel sites because sometimes they have special rates on their site. And example is the Landmark hotel. The have a special for the an upgraded room, whereas if you book through one of the above sites they only give you the standard room.
Have not used the asiarooms.com and asia-hotels.com site yet. Will have to check them out.
Seems like more of the sites are pretty competitive with one another though.
Oh... and I've used the Diethelm travel company. Be for warned that their site sucks because a lot of annimation going on, it take time for the site to load up. But ... there great service makes up for a slow site. ha ha ha!!!

Most definitely if I am in BKK during December you will run into me at Orbit!! Talked to a Supaporn about his trip to BKK and especially about Orbit. He says that there are different dancers there now, then the last time we were there and that they are even better lookin' then the other ones!! With that info, gotta check it out!! ha ha ha!!

This thread came up a month or so ago (started by myself) and there were several "warnings" from other listers.
Firstly, although cheaper, the internet bookings seem to require up front payment for the entire stay. A bit of a problem if you decide to go on a trip or don't like the hotel and want to move.
Secondly, it has come to my attention that certain hotels (esp' Amari chain) then ask for a "cash" deposit from Internet bookers - my friend has just returned from the Amari and they wanted a 30,000 baht cash deposit for a 2 week stay despite the room having been booked and paid in advance. This wiped out half his funds (although it was returned Ok on the last day) and geratly reduced his enjoyment of BKK.
I am sure this is not typical and you can definitely get some good deals on "internet" booking, but if you want flexibility, be aware.
