First off, a very very BIG thank you to all the regulars and veterans of this board. ÝMy short trip to BKK wouldn't have been as enjoyable if I had not consulted all you guys. ÝNow it's my turn to give some input to other guys who are planning their own trip.

I'd rather not post one long long FR with everything in it. ÝThe pertinent sections (Hotel issues, money, transport, massage...), I will post it in their respective areas.

Park Hotel:

Price-1100 bht twin
location-sukhumvit soi 7, 80-100m from Sukhumvit rd itself. ÝVery near, very convenient.
You can actually see Eden Club from the common corridor.
Distance from NEP is about 5-10 mins walk across the road. ÝWalking to Soi Cowboy is about 15-20 mins.
There's a money exchange just outside the hotel which has good rates. ÝIts a standalone booth next to the versace outlet at the corner. Ý
A foodcourt next to the hotel has some nice fare. Ýate there once on the first day. ÝAround 70-110 bht for a dish. Ý
Beer Garden along the same Soi. ÝDidn't go in, since we had other activities planned. ÝLooks ok from outside.
Nana BTS station right at the start of the soi. ÝConvenient. Ý

Rooms:

Springy beds, mounted on wheels.(twin room)
21" tv, very new. ÝChannels like HBO, CNN, Al-jazeera(Arab news channel), NHK, ESPN, one or two others which are entertainment channels from HK.
Clean furnishings, but some are pretty worn, like chairs. ÝThey do have stains, but look more like wear n tear marks rather than dirt. Ý Ý Ý Ý Ý
Bathroom is good, as in tiling and lighting, but the tap/faucet was very worn out. ÝMy friend's tap was shaking loose and the knob was really stiff. ÝThe hot water was alrite. ÝAdjustment was reasonably simple.
Generally poorly lit room. ÝInsufficient lightings to really illuminate the place completely. ÝNo way to make it bright and cheery.
Stained carpet in my room near bathroom/corridor area. ÝProbably someone who really let the tub overflow. ÝMust have been cleaned up, but left its mark. Ý
Not sure if this is usual for hotels of this price, but no electric kettle provided. Ý
Fridge was ok. ÝWorking fine.

Lobby/staff :

The front desk staff were always helpful and put on a smile whenever I spoke to them. ÝNothing bad to say about them at all. ÝGood service all round.
There were these two very cute and young receptionists that I saw. ÝGood enough that my friend wanted to tackle one of them. ÝSeriously! ÝWe later learned she gets off work at around noon and takes the bus home. ÝFair skinned, shoulder length hair, really sweet face. ÝThe other was tanned... unfortunately I wasn't the one who got a good look at her, my pals did.

Breakfast:

One word. Ý"Horrible". ÝThe main things to eat or drink is the orange juice, bacon, some fried rice and the omelette. ÝNothing much else. ÝEach time we walked by the restaurant during lunch or dinner hours and saw some folks actually eating inside, we all couldn't help but laugh at the poor sods eating inside. ÝAt the very most, there would only be a small handful of people eating in there. ÝSometimes even completely empty.

Oh yeah... the lift. ÝWhen we first got in the lift, the four of us couldn't get in. ÝNot because it was small, but the overload warning bell came on when only three of us had stepped in. ÝThe load limit was around 550Kg. Ý Duh... Ý. ÝWe managed to squeeze everyone in occasionally by having the last fella step very gingerly into the lift. Ý

Pool was small but decent. Ývery sloping to the end around 2 over metres. Ý

The massage place is located in the back of the hotel, just above and behind the pool. Ýrates are 300bht for an hour in-shop. Ý500bht for in-room. Ý1 and half hour, 2hr rates available, but forgot. ÝI didn't try the massage, my pal did. ÝThis was his opinion. ÝThe girl was not good looking, but had huge boobs. ÝAround mid 30's. ÝSmall rooms, only 2 in the whole place. ÝExtra services available, but he didn't try, since the girl wasn't that appealing. ÝRate was 1000bht for handjob. That's freakin expensive! Massage according to him was good. ÝFirm and effective.

One weird thing that happened was that while he was being massaged, the whole room suddenly shook so violently that he was almost thrown off the bed. ÝHe thought that a bomb had gone off and panicked. ÝHe started praying and praying for dear life. ÝBut when it had gone on for about 15 secs, he turned to ask the girl, "What the f_ck is that?". ÝGuess what? ÝThe entire massage parlour is built on top of the hotels generator room and when it switches on, the whole place vibrates! I was laughing my ass off at the way he was describing himself praying..... thinking about the bomb going off.... :-D

Overall impression of this hotel is good. ÝI would go back there, because of a couple of things. ÝThe location is excellent, good service, cheap, and most importantly, girl-friendly. ÝWhen the four of us called four girls from Eden to our rooms, the counter staff simply gave me a call to my room to confirm and sent them up promptly once I told them its ok. ÝThey did retain their Id's, which is both a plus and a minus to some. ÝAs for the rooms, make sure you get an ok room. ÝMy table lamp was spoilt, but I didn't tell them about it, since I probably wouldn't be using it much. ÝBut check the rest when u check in. ÝExpecially the tv and the bar fridge contents. ÝWhen we checked out, we had to wait for someone to go n check if we had consumed anything from the fridge.

That's all I can recall for now. ÝPost a msg if there's a question about the place. ÝI'll post my other FR's a little later on in the other places. Ý

For 1100 baht a night, I'm 100% sure that those rooms have AC.

Yup.  the AC was effective in my room.  Too effective that my girls wanted to turn it down.  It's one of those AC systems that are piped in, not a window unit.

Also, the rooms use a key and a plastic tag attached for you to insert into the slot near the bathroom door to turn on the electrics.  Take out the tag and the room powers down after 10-15 secs.

Hi,
was there an in-room safe, or safe deposit at reception?

I've stayed in rooms which require you to leave the plastic tag or leave the card key in a slot to activate the electronics. Since I like having the AC running even when I leave the room, I usually remove the key from the plastic tag and leave the damn tag in the slot. Or, since I usually book a double, I'll insist on two card keys (if they use those) and leave one card key in the slot. Hate coming into a hot, stuffy room.

No in-room safe, but available at the front desk. ÝDidn't use it as I carry all my important documents with me.

I did the removal of the key from the tag at many other hotels, and had to do it once at this hotel. ÝStrangely, the room was never really stuffy when I returned. ÝStill felt ok. ÝWhen I inserted the tag in to power up, the room very quickly cooled. ÝThe AC was that good.

BTW, the massage and room service is supposed to be 24 Hrs. ÝNever tried though. ÝThe rates for the meals are acceptable, about 90-120 bht. ÝSimple thai dishes to more western ones. Ý

Housekeeping comes around 3-4pm. ÝQuite efficient service from them too. ÝReplenished soap and shampoo bottles even though I had left the partially used ones in the tub. ÝSo I got extra bottles instead. ÝPower outlet in the bathroom too. Ý

mt,

Regarding the key tag in the slot thing, most of those slots have a simple mechanical switch in them (maybe new hotels use mag strip), so any piece of thick paper/business card stuck in the slot will work. I use hotel stationary when I don't have a business card to stuff in the slot. The plastic case on that kind of "card reader"  just hides the mechanicals.
