just curious, but what's wrong with paying everything upfront? all the online hotel booking sites i've used charged for my entire stay (2-3 weeks) that way?
anyway, heard that the palazzo is pretty decent...similar to the emerald. recommended by an mp girl, as it does not charge for a guest fee. but, i stayed at the emerald last time and was charged bht600 guest fee each time.

The Palazzo Hotel is a very reasonable stay. I discovered it when I needed a longer stay - ended up being 2.5 months in there - when the Emerald which is where I always stayed as a visitor to BKK could not accommodate.
Being in the centre of MP city they are very used to to-ings and fro-ings of girls and do not have the same business centre pretensions as the Emerald (pleasant as it is).
When I was there I paid 950+tax etc, as opposed to 1650+ at the E. It was a corporate rate, but get your travel agent/employer/anyone to book in the "company name" and you'll be fine.
No extra charge for girls and were even discreet about letting me take another room on a different floor when returning from Mirage coffee shop and an evening out with some Thai biz assocs, when they knew the tgf (history, now - and not because of that!) was in our regular room.
On a Sunday there's an all you can eat buffet, but get there early, because its a big day out for the Thais and gets packed by 12h30.
This info a little old (18mths), but stayed many times over 3 previous years and nothing changed before, and it is the rates, rather than the attitude most likely if anything to have changed. (In the same period I have seen little/no change in prices at other BKK establishments).
If you have a credit card, you can usually get them to take an imprint and then re-do when you check out/once per week whichever comes first. If cash, yes, pay upfront for a week and a deposit 500-100b for minibar and telephone. That's fair enough.
