Just got back from 1 week in Bangkok and I booked simultaneous rooms at Nana and Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. ÝWow, talk about opposite ends of spectrum.ÝSheraton is gorgeous, over the top, and guest-friendly, but a complete rip-off. ÝAnd I'm sorry to say that Nana is (IMHO) gross.ÝThe bathroom smelled baaad, the whole place was depressing...
But I checked out a lot of other hotels looking for a happy medium. ÝDynasty seemed nice (for a cheap hotel). ÝAny opinions on the room quality?
Westin Grande (across from Sheraton) looked quite nice, and I've had personal recommendations there. ÝBut you're paying over 3000 per night for that.
Any opinions about Majestic Suites? ÝWhat is that place, just a couple rooms above a tailor?

You could try Bel Air Princess on Soi 5 (ID registration required, other than that, it's fine) or Grand President on Soi 11. Both are in the 2,000+ range

Hi,
It might just be a good idea to put together a page for Hotels that would contain information like:
- tariff
- cleanliness/ stayworthiness
- recreational facilities (obviously !)
- friendliness.
I know we have a page outlining guest/girl friendly hotels but that is a list. We should expand the info by including the above info and perhaps by outlining a scale of 1 to 10 for the various parameters.

That is a good suggestion. Thanks. Have to move on beyond the listing only. 
However, the input will have to come from you and other fellow visitors. I am working on a system where you can give your feedback on any place that you see on this site. that is my project for 2002!

Sure thing ....we will need to pool in all our resources to keep the ratings uptodate. For a start, I think we have quite a bit of information already on the various pages. Don't think that I am trying to put you to work alone ...just pointing you the right way (!). Woild be glad to provide the inputs once you have the basic structure ready.

Hi Guys!
Here's my two pennies' worth:
I have looked at the rooms of Majestic Suites. Very new and very nice. Haven't stayed there but have eaten in the restaurant (loved the food - a thai menu) which in fact is in the lobby.....kind of an open restaurant with only a small portion in front of the front desk earmarked as the lobby. I remember their tariff as being quite reasonable and the couple of times that I had tried to stay there they were full up. Also very strategically located very close to Nana Plaza.
I have stayed at the Grand President executive suites a couple of times but that was a couple of years ago. It has a lot of expat families staying there and hence I found it a little awkward taking girls up to the room.
Have been staying at the Ambassador Hotel on Sukhumvit at Soi 11 during my visits these last couple of years. I find at around US$ 47 presently for a double room in the Tower wing with their newer and bigger rooms (the main wing being $32), the hotel gives me good value for money. Very customer friendly and no problems about getting a girl up to the room as long as you have paid for double occupancy.

I agree with you on the Ambassador. I have stayed there myself and have found it good. I cannot comment on the prices: I was staying with all expenses on the hotel paid for by the airlines !
I have also stayed at the Bangkok Palace Hotel: absolutely no comments on the room and the service. I would not stay there again.
The Manhattan is good. I have liked staying with them.
A few years ago, I stayed at the Airport Hotel for a night in transit (it was before it became the Atami Airport Hotel). It was lovely ! The inhouse massage parlour was great. I asked for massage in my room and the manager came up with fifteen lovely girls. And the girl I chose was real good at her job.

I am visiting BKK in January. Does anyone know if Taipan hotel on Sukumvit soi 23 is "guest friendly". I want to use this hotel cos I am getting a ery good deal but need to know if it is friendly.. Thanks

Have not tried Taipan, however, if you have booked a double room, you shouldn't have the hassles of getting an extra bed.
I have not had reports from friends whether it is guest friendly or not. So, I can't vouch for it.
