Hi all
So far I've narrowed my selection of hotels to these two: The Manhattan and The Ambassador. Both look quite similar in terms of quality/price, and I'd like to have some more info about them from people that has stayed there.
I'm specially interested to know which is the most clean, has the best safe box and is more guest-friendly (you know what type of "guest" I'm referring to! ).
However if you have info about some other cool hotels on the Nana area under 1500 bath per night, it'd be also appreciated.

Ned, Welcome to the forum! I just checked out of the Tai-Pan within the hour and will return in 4 days for another 10 days. Based on my stay at Manhattan in Oct. I'd urge you to consider Tai-Pan where the quality of the room appointments, breakfast and lunch buffets, and amenities such as pool and sauna are at least a star above Manhattans.
Tai Pan has a really nice understated elegance and boutique feel to it, also it's very close to Soi Cowboy and the Asoke BTS line but still quiet. If you book thru siam-online.net you'll get a rate of 1100/1150 baht double and they will not check your girls id or bother her when coming or going. Which could be a problem later if they're stacked up outside your door (be warned).
Ambassador is in another area of Sukhumvit and up to you to decide which general area you prefer.

Yes they will return to your room say around 2:30 in the morning. That's why I like security to check the girls ID and call my room to see if I want company. Do a hotel search for more answers.

Ambassador is much nicer than Manhattan IMO, but around Nov of last year they became guest unfriendly charging a 700B joiner even if you have a double unless it is the same lady every night.
This is what I have been told, not directly experienced, so maybe another BTFer can confirm this for us.

Some board members have also commented on the construction taking place on the vacant plot next to the Manhattan. Constant banging & drilling could affect the enjoyment of your trip- unless you're the one doing it!
Try out Grottino. Current rate is 1700 and worth every satang!

IMO, the Ambassador is a dump. The lobby smelled like clorox and there were alot of middle easterners during my stay. The hotel is not guest friendly and the rooms are worn. The Manhattan is my choice since its very economical, guest friendly and very clean with many Japanese guest that stay there.

Ambassador is a dump imho and has an ambiguous guest policy.
I stayed at the Tai Pan in Jan and thought it was good.
I had a deluxe room and the bed was the best I have ever slept on. I think it was 2000 baht for the room.
Plenty of other good hotels in the area.
