I first went to thailand in 1982 and then again in 1986.at that time I used to stay at a scabby hotel called the boston inn which was over near the malaysia hotel near lumphini boxing stadium on rama iv.it wasn't the greatest hotel on the world but it was cheap and it had a pool.now I realise that the skytrain has made a bit of a difference to how people get around bangkok but the soi nagam dhuplee area was a happening area when I was there.there was several massage parlours and a bit of a freelance scene around a small bar called the blue fox or something like that.the girls weren't stunners but they were friendly.does anyone have any information about these places?TIA

sorry man, but this is more than 15 years ago! i do not think anything is left after that amount of time especially in a city that has changed so much like Bangkok. even five years are like light years in bangkok! To answer your question there is for sure no more freelance scene around there, may be except the cheap cheap streetwalkers at lumpini park! the rest is gone! donno about your hotel! the only mp in this area i am aware of is helen's. this place should be around for ages already. Helen's sometimes has some nice girls but in general there are better options in town!

Casso, I knew that scene rather well about 17 or 18 yrs ago but I haven't been in that area for about a dozen years. I do know that the Boston closed about 15 years ago. I believe the Blue Fox is still open as is The Malaysia of course. I would be suprised if the scene you remember still exists in its same form. When I last saw it, it was really declining from an already "low-class" vibe.

did some internet searching today and found a link for it.it's still there.rang to make sure and the price for fan room is 170 baht and I will not kid anybody it is not so good.heres a link for some people who overspend and then need to rough it for a couple of days to get their budgets back on track http://bangkokmag.infothai.com/ when I first stayed there in 1982 they had a pool which wasn't working,in 1986 it was and they had some air conditioned rooms but according to the clerk today there is no pool and no air cons.they have 80 rooms and seem to target the backpacker market note but the ckerk said no problem with guests.from rama 4 u could get a bus up to near patpong and get on the BTS from there.used to cost me 20 baht[probably double now] on a tuk tuk or 10 on a motor bike.there is a few other guest houses around there also that would be around the same price.also checked out the internet price for the malaysia hotel 750 baht for twin but a walk up is 736[confirmed by email from manager].they used to have a great cafe with really good tom yum kung and imported aussie steaks but there are plenty of cheap eats around there.Iwas younger then and roughing it was no problem but I am checking out some other hotels but it will always be an option for me.a word of warning the malaysia is supposed to be some kind of homo hangout so if your homophobic it might be better to stay away does any body have any reports about this hotel http://www.hotelthailand.com/bangkok/rexhotel/index.html whats it like and is it handy to the nightlife?

Well, that's a surprise because I specifically remember when they were closing up the place and speaking to the management about it. (We used to have some good parties there about 20 years ago and so I kept in touch with them foir a while.). I guess the plan changed.

bit of a surprise to me also mr. joe but we all know the asian thing.buisnesses don't usually close down they burn down.I would say at a guess that the owner of the building started to get too greedy when the hotel was doing good buisness and made it uncomfortable rent wise for the leasee to continue.then after a couple of years of being vacant the owner got a bit more realistic and someone else takes over.now they are just trying to run it into the ground.pay the rent and make some quick bucks
