Anyone stayed at either of these hotels? Or any suggestion for a hotel in the area? A friend is in BKK for just a few hours during the day and needs a hotel to freshen up, rest a bit and hit an MP in the area before heading back to the airport.

Hey Kris,
I stayed at Emerald several times before and it was great..It is right in the middle of all the action..A lot of the MP's are right down the block...I can't say much about their policy in regards to bringing girls back...I'm pretty sure it could be a problem if it becomes to obvious..Anyhow...good luck man...

Thanks for the thumbs up on the Emerald. Since the room is going to be used only for freshening up and resting a bit and all activity is to be conducted in an MP, girl-friendliness is not a criteria. As you said, the hotel is right there in the middle of all the action and as long as the rooms are clean and comfortable, I will just book him there.

Yes I remember and that was my first suggestion to him. But he said he wanted something a little better and he definitely wanted a safe in the room. Who am I to argue?  So i just decided to give him a couple of more options and let him decide.

I've stayed at the Fortune Hotel before. It's a great hotel with a lot of close amenities since there is a shopping mall that is connected. But, you pretty much gotta take a cab everytime you want to go somewhere and it's just a tad far from the action. I stayed at the Fortune with a discounted rate of 1150 baht/night, good room w/ breakfast in January.
Emerald is much closer to the action and though I have never stayed there, my friend says the rooms aren't as nice as Fortune.
If he just needs a place to freshen up right near all the action he could stay at Siam Beverly for about 800 Baht a night. It's a decent room, but it's cheap and close!
