I am staying at the Novotel Lotus next week, and was wondering if it was safe to bring my laptop computer. Are the rooms at this hotel safe? I have only heard that it is a good hotel, but I want to hear from you guys. Also, do the electrical outlets take the standard U.S. plug? Thanks for your help.

cartman: Have no fear your laptop is safe!! I've stayed their countless times and so have my other business associates. We have left our computers running, networked, and on the desks. We even had the cable running from one room to the next. We had adjoining rooms mind you!! ha ha ha!! Money, digital camera's, and cell phones in the room in plain site with no thefts to report. I would not advice leaving all these items out all the time, but over the course of a trip I've left at least one of them in plain site with no problems. Infact, when the cable was running between the two rooms, I think the maid was not sure how to clean the room It looked like she was very carefull not to touch the cable!! ha ha ha ha!! I normally will place my passport, extra cash and all in the hotel safe, which is not 100% safe. Again, never had a problem with anything ever being stolen. One more story. I left some money on the table between the beds for the maid. A tip of a couple hundred baht. She cleaned the room and left the money on the table. After that I left the money on the bed and she then took it and only that money. Their outlets do take the standard U.S plugs. But, unless you have a converted for other appliances, I would not plug it in!! ha ha ha!! Hope this help you feel more comfortable. But, nothing is 100%. Have a good time in BKK.

Most of the lap-tops today can be plugged into 110V or 220V just check your plug and it will tell you the input power right on it, my video camera, lap-top and palm pilot can be plugged into Thai or North american plugs without a converter. My cell phone charger however, cannot be.

Security is not a problem at Lotus as far as your laptop is concerned. Of course, I would use the room safe for money/credit cards/passport/etc. Laptops are dual voltage. If I remember correctly, the room took the standard US prong. To be safe I would get a plug adaptor at a hardware store before flying to BKK.
