Hi all Can anyone tell me what the BKK policy generally is on cancellations of hotels? Coming over in May and will be there for two weeks, want to play all by ear, but intend to book two weeks at htl in BKK in case I get totally absorbed in the place, but if decide to go to say Pattaya, would I face a bill for the whole two weeks, or just be able to cancel as you can in UK? Thanks guys

Let's see, 500 hotels in BKK, 500 different policy. I guess the answer to your question; it depends on the hotel. Maybe it would be a good idea to EMAIL THE HOTEL you want to stay and ASK THEM WHAT THIER POLICY is. 2 days

maybe u can inform the front desk upon checking in that u might have to leave acouple of days earlier, and what is their policy on such instances?? i've always booked my rooms for an extra one or two days and check out on a earlier date. no questions asked. from what i know, hotels only charge u (1 or 1/2 day)when u don turn up upon confirmation of yr reservation. hope this helps. regards, chrisboy

I would suggest that you only book for a couple of nights and then extend your stay if you are happy with hotel (make sure it is "guest friendly" before booking) and intend to stay in Bangkok for your whole stay. You may wish to switch hotel as this is your first time. Finding a good hotel to check into at this time of year should not be a problem. The hotel issues page will give you an idea on prices, locations etc. A decent hotel room between 1000 and 1500 Baht shouldn't be a problem to find. Enjoy you trip

Yeah i would do the same. Reserve the hotel for couple of nights and extend as you go. If you decide to go to pattaya, then you don't need to cancel the reservation. Usually 72 hours is standard policy to cancel the reservation

I have never, ever had a provlem with extending my stay or cutting it short...no extra charges for either. One word of advice, I refuse to give a deposit - especially via credit card over the internet to a Thai Hotel. If the hotel refuses to book unless I do, then I find another hotel...there are plenty.

I book my hotels via a Bangkok travel-agency who don't require payment upfront. (i.e I paid on arrival in BKK). I also paid for 7 days in Jomtien but got fed-up after a few days... no worries, called the agency and they explained as it was almost noon if I checked out that day I would have to pay for that one day even though I wasn't staying there, but if I left checking out till the next day it didn't cost me anything extra. (except an administration cost for the agency which was I think 50 or 100 baht). I like this set-up as it gives me the piece of mind knowing that if I want a certain hotel it is booked for me, no risk of showing up to hear it's fully booked... but also I know if I turn up at a particular hotel I have booked via the agency and don't like the hotel or area or whatever... then I transfer elsewhere. No hassle and no extra costs, and all done with a smile. For me.... the perfect "win win" solution
