Just stayed at the Stable Lodge for several nights
and found it o.k,booked a superior room,1195 bht
plus tax ( high season price )
Rooms are clean and are serviced every day.
in house laundry,a travel desk and the girl there is very helpfull guest friendly, they only ask for the girls i.d
card and they did not even bat an eyelid on 3 nights
I brought two girls in with me.
Another good thing just down the soi as you walk to Suk
you can call in to the Alley cat bar for an early B.J
600BHT and for extra between you and the girl 500 bht
for the full servise,she pockets the 500 bht.
Yes I`ll be staying there again,walking distance to bts
and Nana.

I booked this hotel in Feb. this year and was not happy about it, in fact I moved out immediately at the first day. Reasons:
- The pool and the outside area is just a bad joke.
- Rooms with cheap interior and furniture.
- No gym.
- Restaurant is a joke as well.
- Shower curtain covered with black mould stains.
- Bathroom smelled as if something had died there.
I moved into Grand President which is, although also not perfect, a whole lot better than StableLodge for a comparable price.
But one has to say that the StableLodge receptions girls were very friendly, and I had no trouble to cancel my reservation there.

if you want a real nice and guest friendly hotel in this area you best go to marriott on soi 2. they do have internet rates at USD 92 including tax and breakfast!
i am actually living in soi 8 and do dine at the stable lodge occasionally. it is certainly not the best restaurant in town but i considered the food reasonable in quality and pricing esp. the thursday barbecues are a good deal!
by the way there are other cheap hotels below thb 1,000 per night in soi 8 like the promenade opposite stable lodge and the royal asia lodge at the end of the soi!

griffin, I doubt the promanade will get more points with the discerning travellers than stable lodge, but it's a personal favorite of mine as it got the infamous rooftop pool open for all night water 'activities' 
I never stayed at the stable though, but did dine by the pool as wanted to scare a TG away by showing how bad danish food is! I'm afraid it didn't work though...

sure the promenade is even a step further down but also a bit cheaper than the stable lodge!
personally i wouldn't stay in all of the soi 8 hotels, but i am probably to spoilt by all these fine and rather cheap asian five star hotels allready!

Sure if you can afford 5* the choice is easy
I only stay at top hotels when on biz & from those experiences JW Marriott, Landmark, Amari Watergate or even Baiyoke Sky are just great.
Heard good reviews on the new Conrad too
As to budget hotels below 1k bt mark around soi8 I say Promenade or Ruamchitt are safe bets...

I actually went to the Marriott, and the receptionist quoted USD 160 for a single room which was clearly over my budget (no business trip, not expendable). But USD 92 incl. tax and ABF is quite good, and the Marriott is indeed a very nice hotel, so could you please tell me where to find this offer on the net? (But, although the girls like this hotel a lot, they might also charge you higher prices then... )
The GP is really not a bad place either, just starting to show age here and there, but very acceptable for the price. On my 2nd stay, they didn't have a Topaz with king-sized bed anymore and upgraded my without hesitation to a 60qm Grand Suite for 35€ a day - not a bad deal.

I think I've stayed in everything from 100bt guesthouses to 5* hotels e.g. JW & never experienced changed experiences regarding pay from the girls if assuming nothing has been arranged upfront which I rarely do...
Actually I prefer going to their room rather than mine as it's always an 'exciting' experience

I have somehow mixed feelings about staying at a girl's place. During my last trip, a nice BG from Tilac invited me to her appartment, and it was really interesting to see how she lived and what her private life is like. But also a bit sobering, if you know what I mean. So, by the end of the day, I prefer to spend the night at a 4 or 5 * hotel room.
