I read in a newspaper that, due to the low number of tourists (because of SARS), price could be negociated down a lot in bangkok. The article was giving an example of price of 10-15$ for a room in a five star hotel room worth 50$ (no hotel name given).
Is it just newspaper crap ?
I had a look at asiatravel site, the main promotions are 3 nights for the price of two, or packages of 2 nights incl. breakfast, plus one airport transfer (ex. windsor suite 2500 B, novotel lotus 2700 B). It looks like interesting prmotion, but nothing like what I read in the newspaper.
Do some members have some interesting experience to share? Is it better not to make reservations and to negociate directly face-to-face ?

From what i gather they have tried some promotion like 500 baht nites at 5 star hotels but the fine print always says THAI only

I plan on playing things by ear when I get to LOS next weekend. I haven't made one single reservation anywhere like I normally do. I'll fill everyone in on how this works out.
One plea from me however is to try and not extend your bargain hunting to the P4P biz. Take advantage of the discounts at hotels and stores and restaurants, but try not to take advantage of the wonderful ladies of LOS. Peace

maybe your experience is different to mine, but I have not been able to get better prices at hotels by walking in, as opposed to on line booking....... just a thought

Dave is right...plus it is always better to have at least the first night booked so you don't have to go hunt for a hotel with that jet lag kicking your ass.

You might want to book online at a Hotel with a no cancelation penalty. Then when you get to LOS shop hotels.

I know guys, normally I always book online. This will be my first time playing it by ear. My reasoning behind doing it this way this time is because from what I've been reading during the last couple months, due to the war, the SARS scare, and the bad economy everywhere that world travel right now is at an all time low, especially in SE Asia.
Couple that with the fact that it is now officially low season in LOS and I have a pretty good idea that those of us that are planning to be in LOS during low season this year can pretty much expect to be the center of attention in whatever bar or club or MP we choose to visit. When I arrive there next Sunday something tells me it won't take long for me to get from the plane to the taxi stand out front.
This leads me to believe that most hotels won't be anywhere near booked to capacity so I'm not imagining having any problem finding a room in any hotel I walk into. As far as getting a lower price online is concerned, yes it usually is lower than the walk in price, but once you book online you're stuck with the online price, especially if they required you to pay in advance by CC. The walk in price however can be negotiated, and at this time probably by a decent amount.
Anyway that's my take on the way things are in LOS at the moment. I could be wrong but I doubt it. If all else fails and I am wrong at least I can always camp out on BK's pool table  . Peace

I have been going to planetholiday.com.
How does that one rate for price?
Most of my surfing of the net has given just about the same price for all hotels.
