Hello
My name is PatK100, I am from the UK, and I have booked to stay at the Dusit Hotel in Pattaya from the 16th April for 14 nights. My booking has been made through Bridge the World Travel in the UK.
I am planning to spend a couple of nights in Bangkok and wondered if you had any recommendation for cheap central hotels and wonderdedwhat are the room rates arte at this time.
Would like any web sites of suitable hotels

Your question is pretty open. What is cheap to you might not be to others. What figure are you looking for??
I assume you have checked out the " guest friendly" list in bangkoktonight. If its your first visit to BKK I suggest you look in Sukhumvit area. You can get something decent for 1200 to 1400 baht per night. Is 22 GBP cheap??

Just joined this forum tonight, will share my info with you. I just returned from BKK to my (still frozen, damn it) home in Canada last week, very reluctantly. I had a great time in BKK and Pattaya, and I'm sure you will too. I was a newbie, but had a couple of great Thai GF's that showed me around.
I was staying in a hotel called the Ruamchitt Plaza for five nights, but they pissed my off by charging me 300B extra every time I brought a "guest" home overnight - in other words, every night  ! GF #1 found me a better place on Sukhomvit Soi 1 called, appropriately enough, Street 1 Lodge. This is an older, but decent hotel, with A/C, full bathroom with tub and shower, and mini-fridge in a quiet area a few hundred meters off Sukhomvit. The bed linen was a little worn, but it was clean and the staff didn't bat an eye when I moved GF#2 in for a couple of days. The price? Only 550B a night, cash only. They don't have a web site, but their fax number is 655-1891.
If I were you, I'd check into one of the main hotels around here, say the Nana Hotel which is as close to the action as you're going to get and has decent rooms for 1050B a night,and then look around a bit the next day and ask to see a few rooms. Maybe 500B a day doesn't seem like much to save, but remember it's your average bar fine around here!
Personally, I'd rather save my baht for the beer and the babes, no shortage of either in this area!

Good to hear that you checked out. I had heard that Ruamchitt was guest friendly. Apparently not now.
I have posted previously that if ever I am unsure of hotel policy towards guests, I only ever book 1 or 2 nights initially. It is easy to move on.

That is very strange?! The price for single/double/twin is the same rate (900 Bht). I stayed there some time ago, and they didn't even bother when I brought my girl into the room.

Oops, slight mistake - I doublechecked my receipts from the Ruamchitt Plaza and the guest charge is 250B, not the 300B I stated earlier. Still a piss-off, though.
There's another hotel across Sukhomvit called the Ruamchitt Travelodge that is somewhat cheaper than this one - I remember seeing both on the internet.
Actually, I never really intended to stay there - a fellow I met that day in Singapore Airport told me about a good cheap hotel near Soi Cowboy called the "Asoke Hotel", and he wrote it down on a piece of paper for me. I showed it to the cab driver but when we got into the area he couldn't find it! This guy was going to dump me and my bags in the middle of Soi Cowboy around mid-afternoon. I said no way - the name "Ruamchitt" had stuck in my mind from my internet surfing so I told him to take me there and they had a room available so that's where I decided to stay. It seemed a good deal after the expensive glorified broom closets I had been staying in while in Australia and Singapore.
It always pays to shop around, though...

Seems like something has change at Ruamchitt. if anyone stays there they should post a result.
Not sure if I am mistaken here but I thought Asoke hotel was a short time hotel to take your friends from soi Cowboy.

What is a cheap hotel for you? Dusit, in Pattaya or elsewhere, is on the top range of hotels in Thailand. Cheaper than Dusit, I guess almost all Bangkok hotels.
