It's about 10 minute walk to Patpong which has a lot of bars, but is considered to be a bit of a tourist trap.

If you will be in Patpong bars, find out which are the best bars in that area, and avoid those that run scams.

Amari Watergate is an expensive hotel, but not great location for the bar or MP scene. About 10-15 minute walk to Chitlom BTS stop, which will take you to Nana Entertainment Plaza. Cabs are cheap, but traffic in the area is pretty bad during the extended rush hour. You might be able to get the JW Marriott or Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit for the same price.

I see that it's already to late.
Not to burst your bubble, but my opinion is to stay away from an of the hotels in the Amari chain in Bangkok. I've stayed at the Watergate and and Atrium before and both were not guest friendly. Infact, at the Atrium I was charged extra just to bring a female friend and not bg up to the room to hang out. No joke. It was around 1am and we were going to watch NFL on tv. She was my translator for work and they still had the nerve to charge me extra. I guess, just make sure that you have double occupency paid and hopefully that might curb the issues. But, even when I changed my room to double after the incident, i still has hassles.
If you search for a thread on non-guest friendly hotels, you will find the Amari chain mentioned a lot.

Nothing like NEP, Soi Cowboy, or Patpong in the immediate area of Amari Watergate that I know of.
Traffic is a little lighter on Sundays. For only a few days in BKK, if traffic is really bad just walk to the Chitlom BTS stop (then take BTS to Nana or Patpong), or take a cab and just allow extra time. But even when sitting in the cab stuck in traffic for long periods of time, the meter does not go up very fast compared to most other cities I have been in, so it is still fairly cheap. If you are coming back to the hotel fairly late at night, a cab will be no problem.

As my heading says wish i had found BK Tonight earlier. My travel agent put me there as i said i was keen on the shopping but now i am keen on other thing too. Wonder why my thoughts have been side tracted !!!!!!!

Next time stay close to a BTS Skytrain stop. That puts you a short ride away from many shopping and entertainment areas.
