Hi all. I be will visiting the LOS for the first time in Nov and I was hoping someone could help me out with what area I should stay. I'm planning on doing a little of everything (go go bar, disco, shopping, MP). I'm only going to be in BKK for two weeks, but I'm going to try to do as much as I can. Any advice is welcomed and grately appreciated

drknlvly,

Let transportation be your guide.

From the Ratchadapisek, taxis will be your main mode of transport, unless and until the subway has service to your area.

From Sukhumvit, you will have the Skytrain to EVERY kind of food/event/service you can want for your first trip, not to mention that MOST everything you will want will be within walking distance.

Nothing keeping you from taking a taxi to Ratchada and the big MPs, but without speaking Thai, Ratchada will not be as friendly as Sukhumvit.

Once you get the lay of the land, you can (and I think, should) branch out.

If some of the cheap hotel prices lure you away from ground zero, remember: you will MORE than make up for the savings on your room with taxi fares.

Aside from the big MPs, there isn't much for you at Ratchadapisek.

have fun,
haam sup

Mr Alan
I think you will be better off if you stay as close as possible to a BTS skytrain stop. That would pretty much rule out Ratchadpisek, at least until they get the subway completed which runs along Asok.

I say this even though I frequently visited MP along Ratchadpisek.

I'd suggest you stay in the Sukhumvit area and then visit the Ratchadpisek area for the Mp's and Sparks night club. There is more to do like shoping and such in the Sukhumvit area that is within walking distance or skytram.

I also agree with haam sup regarding the transportation.

Have a good time on your trip.

drknlvly, I'd recommend the Sukhumvit area. Nana Plaza, Grace, Thermae and Soi Cowboy are all there within walking distance of each other. You can hop on the BTS skytrain from here to go to other areas for shopping like MBK Mah Boon Krong mall, the World Trade Center, Siam Square and Siam Center and Patpong also. The last BTS station let's you off at Chatuchak Weekend Market. All your souvenir needs here at cheaper prices. The largest outdoor swap meet. Nana Hotel Disco (aka Angel's Disco) right here across from Nana Plaza as well. Concept CM2 disco is located at Siam Square in the Novotel hotel. MP's (massage parlors) are mostly located on New Phetaburi Road or the more expensive and larger ones on Ratchada Phisek Road. For those you will have to catch a taxi. Not real far but alot of traffic so it seems as though it is. Check out a map to see the true distance. Two weeks is plenty of time to check out every thing. Start your evenings out early so you can accomplish everything each and every day. Have Fun!

Where would one go for some pre-MP drinks on Ratchadapisek? I would like to be within walking distance to Poseidon or Emmanuelle. Just looking for a nice relaxing bar to knock back a few beers to calm the jitters .

I see Sparks mentioned, Any place else that is Farang friendly?

I'd suggest you get to Emmanuelle around 5ish and tip a manage around 500 to 1000 baht to let you know when the female arrive. Then kick back in the lounge area and play some pool and throw back some drinks. When the females arrive, the manager will bring them by to meet you without you having to leave the bar area. Just make sure you let the manage know what type of female you are looking for.

And, I'm not sure if you know, but Sparks is a large dance clud / disco. So, I'd suggest you get to this place around 11ish, grab a table and watch the females walk around. There are plenty of freelancers or non-working females at the club that if you got the skilz's can hook up with for a "freebie" so to speak.

Have a good one.

Suk Rd area seem to be better as more hotels are guest friendly, I believe. Does anyone know which hotels in the Ratchadpisek Area is actually guest friendly ? I know Emerald is not.

Suk Rd is obviously best for a newbie who wants to see a little of everything, but with regard to the The Emerald Hotel on Ratchadapisek, I found them to be guest-friendly as recently as April 2003. My friend and I tested this policy more than once, and the standard rules seemed to apply:

1. Book at double-occupancy
2. Girl cannot visit room unescorted
3. Girl must leave ID with security

Other than that it was no problem and everything went very well. If you know you will be spending your time at the various MP's in the area, then The Emerald is a great place to stay. Many sites I've seen call it 4-star/diamond, but it's really more like 3 IMO. Try to get $35/per night or better and you won't be disappointed. If you don't mind paying more you can visit the Merchant Court accross the street. It's newer and nicer than The Emerald with a price to match. BTW, if you're on the lower floors of The Emerald, you might get a nice blast of music from Sparks until 1-2AM.
