I stayed now for a few times at the Landmark hotel at Sukhumvit and with one word it was GREAT. Maybe not the cheapest but better a few beer less and a great hotel instead. Specially the breakfast is one of the best ever. Also never a problem to take girls back to your room. From now on I only stay here.

And only 5000 baht a night. Wow. I stayed as a newbie on a package about 2 years ago - the pool was closed, the room safe didn't work, the jug of drinking water (no sealed bottles) had what looked like pubic hair floating in it and on two mornings the breakfast bread has insects crawling through it. They billed me 100 baht for each phone call (usually 10 baht) that accessed my overseas calling card and it was about 800 baht to watch an in house movie (not that I did). Yet people continue to rave about this place. You are welcome to it and I have some railway shares you may also like.

It's huge. The size is relative impressive comparing to the other two next door. Most girls I know around there aren't turned-on by it.

IMHO, One of the perks about Thailand is the cheap hotels - helps offset the expensive plane ticket. On a previous trip to Phuket I booked my entire stay at the Arcadia Resort Hotel which was nice but I wasted a lot of money since I was hardly ever there. The majority of my time was spent out and about roaming the sois, drinking all night or spending the night at some TG's place. The way I work it now is I stay at a nice hotel only a few nights and the rest of my trip is spent at a cheaper place. This way I indulge in the ammenties the nicer hotels offer then move on to something more sensible - but I do have certain standards that the hotel must adhere to (AC, clean, restaurant, pool - things like that). In the LOS, it is not that hard to find a place which reaches those expectations for a good price, they are all over the place But I stand by my notion of staying at a really nice luxury hotel at least for a 1 or 2 nights. Where else can you get a 5 star hotel for around a 100 dollars/night. Not where I'm staying... Being a former hotel manager I don't get that impressed with hotels anymore - while in the LOS it just serves the purpose of being home base most of the time. One thing I find hard after staying at hotels in Thailand: When you need a hotel back home (the US for me) the cost is so high and the hotel is so average in comparison. It makes it a lot harder to pull your wallet out knowing you stayed at a nicer hotel in Thailand for about 1/3 of the cost, with superior service I might add. 5000 Baht/night sounds ridiculous to me for a lengthy stay but not for a couple nights...

Minder, I don't now from which world you are but it must a long time ago that you stayed in this hotel. ( or you mistake the hotel ) I paid never more then 3500 Baht a night, a lot of money off-course but i'm always staying one night in BKK on my travel and like to have a good hotel. They never had a open water jug like you said (same like every other hotel ) they have off-course seald bottles for free and as much as you like. The service what they give is very good and the room is always spotless clean with a chocolate on the pillow for the night. The bathroom ( a good standard for inspecting a hotel ) is big with everything you need ( free toothbrush / paste, saving cream / raser and so on ) . The breakfast bread is at the most 1 hour old because they make it fresh right next to the breakfast counter. Where do you find a breakfast with every day a new complete smoked ham.

Merijn - as I stated in my post it was two years ago (sept 2001). 5000 baht is their price for a junior suite (sometimes). The Landmark does have some plus points, for example the Nipa Thai Restaurant is excellent and the external glass elevator is fun - however OVERALL I think it is a rip-off - and in the world I live I am entitled to an opinion even if it runs contrary to the over-the-top sales pitch of other posters. Wow you only pay 3500 a night for a standard room!! And a chocolate on the pillow at no extra cost? Double wow!! We have different value systems that's all. Now how about those railway shares?

The Landmark is a good place...and Green House(?) restaurant is one if the best for Thai and Farang food. BUT not always they are guest friendly-if you bring 2-3 guests, the security near the lift will take the ID's and in many cases will charge you 1000 bath. So sometimes you can smuggle birds in for free, sometimes you should pay...Information right for December 2002.

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone ate in the restaurants in the Landmark or tried the pub? I plan on staying here this summer and I want to know the prices of these restaurants. Also is the food good? I would like to eat here since I'll be getting a 20% discuout. BTW they have a special running through SEPT 2004...for $98US you get the junior exec. suite and a bunch of discounts on their restaurants and shopping PLUS a limo ride. You can just book direct too! I haven't booked it yet, but when it gets closer to time I will. Please, if anyone has any recent experiences let me in on it! Thanks, WALLEY

I just had my breakfast there an hour ago! The Chinese food there is pretty good. Huntsmans Pub has good farang food too, thought I'd doubt you'd want to be there too much, being so close to Nana Plaza and Beer Garden and Soi Cowboy.

WOW! That's funny! I'm guessing that the food must be pretty good since the master goes there! That's all I need...I'm definately going to stay here! BK, what are the prices in this place as far as the restaurants go? I'll probably eat there once or twice if the price is good. Thanks, Walley
