I've been invited as a last minute fill-in for a short trip to the LOS. I'm hoping someone can help me with the guest policy of the Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa and the Hard Rock Hotel in Pattaya. Not my first choice for accommodations, but as I said I'm a last minute fill-in. This trip isn't going to help my handicap but maybe I'll come home with a new caddy.

Hi,
JW Marriot has been given thumbs up by the brothers (4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2). On the other hand, Hard Rock Hotel also got few good comments but I am not sure on them. You better take a look on the girl/guest friendly hotel guide at the main page of this Website. Hope it helps. Enjoy!!!!

There is more than one Marriott in Bangkok (click on the link). If this is the one I am thinking of, then it is not terribly convenient for nightlife type activities. It is across the Chao Praya river and downstream, about 10 minutes by the shuttles, from the other big river hotels.

It is sad though that age, looks, skin color and I am sure race comes into play in how some hotels treat a customer. I am not saying that else where in the world it different, but it's sad all around.

I used to be one of those Brits who flew to the sun as often as possible to lie in the sun 'cos we whities wanna be brown.
It is frankly embarrassing how differently I am treated, simply dependant upon how I am dressed. If I travel with my business partner we really cause some confusion. he was born In UK of Indian parents so some hotels don't really know what to do. But usually they go on the side of caution and be polite. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP.

I agree. I gave up trying to dress a certain way and look a certain way. If a hotel, airline, restaurant, ect. treat me differently in a negative way because of my looks then I will not use that company again.
I too also run into the sun as often as I can. It think it's easier for me to because I live in sunny California! ha ha ha!! Unfortunately with work and all, the only sun I see in on the weekends while playing golf.

HMMM..." taking the piss"... how to translate? I suppose a polite translation would be " having a joke at someones expense. But in a pretty cutting way.
We're gonna get in trouble again for going off thread but never mind.
Here is another one. I just got back from NE Thai. Met two old buddies and sure they fixed a friend. It was like having girlfriend, servant and golf caddy all rolled into one. For sure she wasn't very experienced but boy did she make up in enthusiasm. Don't know what she cost for the two days ( buddies sorted it) but it was again another great experience.
Ok everybody. Sorry to digress.

Before we digress to much, another hotel that is guest friendly is the Grand hotel on Ratchadapisek Rd.

The closest American English phrase, IMO, would be "yanking your chain".
