First time in chiang Mai without wifey and am looking for a BG friendly hotel. Have preference for the Orchid or the Empress but dont know how GF they are. Any input on this?

I stayed at the Lotus Puan Sang Keow, right next to the orchid. From what I could tell it is guest friendly, at least there is no way they could stop you as it connects to a mall. Through a bizarre set of circumstances I myself had no guests (its a long story - that perhaps will be told)
Its a decent hotel, but its undergoing renovation at the moment. Don't take the cheap rooms, they are in a different wing and are sh*t, the ood rooms are not that much more.
Hotel isnt in the best spot for nightlife however...

So where is the best spot for nightlife? I guess what I'm asking is if you had to say "farang go here to f*ck in Bangkok" the answer would be NEP or Cowboy, etc... What is the correct answer for CM?

Empress is ok, make sure you book a double or just tell the manager to f*ck off if he asks for anything late at night. I took girls there no problem.
PornPing is also no problem, right above the freelancer disco hotspot 'bubbles'
Also the ChangInn is no problem, just make sure you ask for the new rooms and not the cruddy old ones.
Both these last 2 are in the centre of town and the empress is a little out of town.

You might try the Rydges Hotel near the old city. The manager has adopted a girl friendly policy. Apparently the beer bar is now attracting some freelancers. Some have reported that if you ask the manager you can stay in the hotel short time.

Thanks for all that. I will probably opt for the Lotus, as I have stayed at the Empress before, and want a diff experience. Also like the Sang Kaew side of town.
