Hello all
Ive not been on here now for almost 8 months. So im treating myself as a newbie again.
I have been to thailand before, what i want to know is as i pre booked my hotels before i left last time. Im just asking as to what sort of prices im looking at for a room per night in bkk, pattaya and Samui. As im thinking of just getting a flight this time. Is it easy to just turn up and find a room?? Would like girl friendly ones as well
Any help would be great.......

from my experience and reading these threads I would advise you to book your hotel in advance and not to search one when you come to BKK. There are several reasons for that
Firstly booking on the net is cheap sometimes 40-50% of the walk in tariff.
Secondly you can check out all the different hotel on the internet from the online booking sites compare their services and get immediate confirmation while still in the comfort of your home.
Thirdly at the time you arrive to BKK it would be difficult for you to get in the Taxi search for different hotels and keep in mind if you are comming from a place far away there is the jet lag that also needs to be taken care off so would you be able to gather that much amount of energy (which could better be used when in BKK for something much more useful... if you know what I mean  )at that time and also remember Thais do not speak english that well hense conversation could be a problem at some places or with some ppl.
Also regs the guest friendly thing just book a room with a double occupancy and you would not be bothered on paying the BG fee when bring the BG to your hotel.
Try the http://www.planetholiday.com site They offer some of the cheapest tariffs for hotels.

like veejrah suggests, you will get a better deal using an agent.
Whenever I am in LOS, I need flexibilty, so I book the first couple of nights on line. If I need to change or extend my stay, I make a call to the agent who calls the hotel. That way I get the room at on line price, not walk in price.

I have been staying there for over 25 years. Will be moving on next trip. The girls working at the bar see too much and talk too much
I might add they have worked there that long also.

http://www.planetholiday.com shows me a much better price for the Manhattan Hotel then I got with http://www.siam-online.net I calculated it was more then 100 Baht less with that site. Ý
Did I screw up the conversion from US$ into Baht or miss something. ÝOr are they that much cheaper then the other online sites?

What I observe is that all these internet sites are definately cheaper than the direct walkins. I have not as yet compared the prices of http://www.planetholiday.com with the other internet sites. I also did not go with the planetholiday initially. I got a bundled tour from my travel agent and he f_cked me up. For a two days stay at the Ambassador (Sukhumvit) he charged me a total of an approx of 3900 Bhats and that too for a room in the Main Wing which for walkins is around 1400 Bhatts.
What sensible thing that I did was that I made a resevation for a 2 day period only. After arriving in BKk I contacted the Planet Holiday office in BKK and they moved me into a beter room and charged 1400 Bhats per day. And all this was done on the day the initial two days were to expire.
I would be visiting again in Jan 2004 will be staying at the Ambassador and would be booking through the planetholiday ppl.
