hi,
i didn't find any posting on this subject and would appreciate your replies. do you guys tip the chambermaid, either on a daily basis or as one lump sum at the end of your stay?

I always leave all my small change on a plate in the room, I allways leave it every day and it never gets taken till after I leave.....
Last time it added up to arround 500B, but I also make an effort to personaly give the regular maid 300-500B in her hand as I think that change left in the room will be spit between all the staff.
I tend to stay at the admiral suites soi 22, and my maid gets to know that I am not an early riser so she allways does my room last arround 3pm and is a great laugh so the tip is no problem for good service and I am allways remembered next time I go back.

I usually leave 50 Baht / day depending on the level of the hotel. I also have some kind of gift that I bring from home that I give them. Last time it was a small box of maple candy. The service from the maids after is fantastic, clothes folded, shoes shined, room cleaned as soon as I go to breakfast or late lunch depending on the night before.

have to agree with the last 2 Posters.
i always get a Girl to write a note in Thai thanking the Maids and leave 500 for each of them on my last morning,a fortune for them.
i'm such an untidy Barstard and the Maids make a fantastic job of cleaning my room after I have left.
where I used to stay they would often change my sheets twice a day.
if I managed a S/T after their first change,they would change them again ready for my my nightly L/T.
darlings all of them.

I tip the maid every day. Since I'm not sure if they share tips and also what days she's off. I'd hate to tip the wrong maid for 5 days worth of service, when she only worked 1 day!!
And it all depends on how messy the room is. Generally, I tip around 100 baht per day. Again, if the room is a complete mess, then I will tip more.
But, whatever you feel comfortable leaving is fine. Or if you don't want to tip that's also okay.

I always tip for good room service by the chambermaids in thailand they are always considerate and even fun to spend a few minutes with each day. I tip at the end of the trip and leave a small gift and cash (about 40B a a day). This year they took care of me extra well when I had food poisoning. Brought me hot water, and fruit several days in a row and even counseled me on staing in and resting and not going out (who can go out with those symptoms!). This year, I took several soccer (footballs?), to the orphange, had one left over, and gave it to the chambermaid for her kids. She brought in a picture of them playing with it, and told me how much they enjoyed it.

I try and grab the maid on the 1st day give her a good tip and tell her she'll get the same again, if she keeps me supplied with extra towels and remakes the room between ST bouts.
