Still a FNG so can't post directly to hotel, so am asking BK to forward to if prefers.

I won't be coming to thailand until december but would like member's input into a 3 star hotel (maybe up to $50) that has the following. I will be in Bangkok for 7 days, Pattaya for 7 days and Cambodia for 3 days.

a) girl friendly policy
b) a GOOD gym/fitness center
c) Sukhumvit area in Bangkok
d) Open to location in Pattaya but prefer walk to Walking Street. Am considering Welkom Inn but am unsure if has a gym, anybody know?
e) Breakfast not important, as prefer variety

I have stayed at Tower Inn and Narai hotels in Bangkok and although good values and satisfactory gyms, are too far from NEP and Cowboy. Liked Montien, but a little pricey too, and pool is nice but shady half the day.

One member had good comments on the Novotel Lotus a few days ago, has a good gym but http://www.asiatravel.com has a superior room for B3,200, a little pricey for me. Are there local travel agents that get better price?

Thanks in advance, LBM

b) a GOOD gym/fitness center?

What about the bed in your hotel room?

Now you want all this information for your December trip and it's only April 29th.! Gee I think that gives you ample time to use the search facility of this forum, plus do your own research by logging onto various hotel websites, and perhaps talking to your travel agent.

By the way, you have posted this question in the right place because it is definately a 'Newbie Question'.

Well fastmover you sure are Johnny on the spot with your quips again and they are tiring. The one thing, and maybe only thing I find disgusting about forums in general, is the willingness of perfect strangers to insult and talk dispargingly to others, that they would never do in a face to face conversation.

I did search under "Gym" in this forum and did not find what I needed, so I thought if I petitioned others for their input, I would get a more varied result.

Logging in under a hotel's website or asking your travel agent for gym information is a laugh. The hotels will glowingly describe their facilities, with fantastic photos, but when you show up at the hotel, they are crap, ie. Siam Bayview (gym only). And travel agents for information on the quality of fitness centers!, where do you think they get their information? Yep, from the hotels!

Peace

You could try the Royal Princess Bel Air in Sukhumvit soi 5 (http://www.dusit.com/hotel/pbb/index.html).
It's between 3 and 4 stars and it's under the Dusit Group so you can expect a good level of services.
Gym is not huge, but the budget matches your request...location is excellent
Pattaya.....the Siam Bay View it's worthy of consideration (http://www.siamhotels.com/sbv_accom.asp).....as they say it's "Where the action is"....

Well!

'The one thing, and maybe only thing I find disgusting about forums in general'...is the incessant need for people like you to ask members to perform rudimentary chores like holiday planning 8 months ahead of time!

'I petitioned others for their input...' Well when you do that on a public forum like this, you get perfect strangers also responding, in fact a whole lot of perfect strangers.

First off, 8 months is an extreme amount of time in the hotel industry, especially when applied to 3 star hotels.

Hotel star systems are usually applied to hotels that offer guests added features. Add features---add stars. So it would be rare for a '3-Star' hotel to add in a gym to their overhead without some return in star value, which would mean that they can raise their prices.

But, about your character. In the cialis thread, you indicated a distrust of the big drug companies, and now here you indicate a distrust of hotel web sites and travel agents. Distrust is a big issue with you?

I am sure that some kinder, gentler members than me will be along shortly to help you with your 8 months in the future holiday plans. Needless to say I hope you will contain your 'distrust' and accept their recommendations.

And should your 3-star find of the century complete with gyms, modern equipment, instructors, shower facilities and charming full time receptionists, fail to actually exist 8 months from now, due to a change in hotel mangement affiliation, ownership or even demolition by terrorist attack, please forgive them and do not add them to your rather extensive list of distrusted entities.

I 'trust' you will have a nice day.

I recall Le Meridian President had a very good gym, has decent location, not too far from NEP and right at the BTS station. It was 4 star, I seem to recall paying about 2500. It is no longer under Le Meridian management, I know the old 5-star Le Royal Meridian next door is now the InterContinental, not sure who manages the 4 star property now. Also, don't know about guest friendliness of current management.

You're right about the gym at Siam Bayview, it really sucked, didn't it? But I got a good workout just walking to it (and trying to find it, what a letdown). They did have nice pool and tennis courts, however.

I have heard the Siam Bayview is not girl friendly. They try and charge a joiner's fee in the 800 baht range.

The Welkom Inn on Soi 2/3 has no gym that I know of and it is a far piece to walk to Walking Street. You can get baht buses but the walk is probably close to 1 1/2 to 2 miles. Got a few nice looking girls working the bar though.

Relax, take your time and search through the Pattaya thread (33 pages of threads). Ignore fm, it's his time of the month again.

How about the Ambassador royal Suites. You can get a 1 bedroom apartment for 8400 per week. That price incliudes: free use of gym & 10% discount on health club facilities; free daily English language newspaper; 10% discount on food & beverage in the Ambassador Hotel restaurants; 20% discount on laundry & dry cleaning with complimentary pressing of 3 pieces per day. The 8400 works out to 1200 per day which would be approx. 30.00 U. S. per day. I emailed them & asked if I could have overnight guests in my room. Their answer was yes I could in the apartments but in the hotel rooms they charge an additional 650 baht for the guest per night. The apartments are connected to the Ambassador Hotel by an enclosed walkway. Location: short distance off Sukhumvit on Soi 15-about half way between NEP & Cowboy.
