Planning my next trip to the LOS, looking for a decent hotel for a couple of nights in Bangkok for around 500-700Baht per night, somewhere near the nightlife and guest friendly, would welcome suggestions

Go for the Sukhumvit area for sure, A couple of Hotels that come to mind are the Premier, just off the corner of soi 8, or Honey, down soi 19, neither the Ritz, but have the required Air-con, bath, hot water and double bed, plus staff no hassles. Why not lash out and pay the 1000bt - and stay right on top of the action, i.e. opposite the best bars, and above the biggest disco pick-up joint in the land, at the Nana Hotel, on soi 4 - they even throw in a breakfast for that.
