The Metropolitan (former YMCA) is classified as boutique hotel, kinda like it or hate it.....
Rooms are big, decoration minimalist....IMHO it gives a feeling of sadness or coldness.....service is ok, little pricy, food is a discovery (call it fusion!)...swimming pool is mainly a decoration (being the attraction of the ppl eating at the Cyan is not the goal of my life).....
Not girlfriendly as they charge for joiners.....and location is not so good: plenty of embassies and banks but action is far...also Skytrain and MRT are not so close....
For the price of the Metropolitan, you could stay at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit or the Shangri-la....
Only good thing is the cocktail lounge....it's becoming a trendy spot....

Thanks Caronte,

This hotel sounds like a replica of The Standard in L.A.

I looked at it's pricing and for the money, I probably should stay at the Shangri-La, Sheraton or even The Sukhothai.

However, the trendiness of this hotel sounds like a good place to meet "THE GOOD GIRLS" of Thailand.

Any idea when this hotel opened? I have been researching hotels for a while now, and just came across it on the Precision website here on BTF.

It is actually the sister hotel of The Metropolitan in London. Been open about 9 months.

They have a bar there that is something of a 'good girl' hangout (The Met bar in London has always been extremely trendy) - however, of late, it has been near empty.

Well Abrak, looks like we can team up to write down a very comprehensive guide on the hotels in Thailand!

Hey guys, thank you very much for the word on this hotel.

Review notes based on the reviews given by 2 of the great members of this forum.

Trendy Bar.... but dead. Sounds like they need a huge promotional to attract people (my opinion).

Review of room prices says EXPENSIVE in comparison to other 5 stars. Better value elsewhere???? hmmm.

Not gf friendly.

And it's away from the action.

Did I miss anything?

Yes, the staff (female) is not that good looking!
Why not give a try to the Westin Grande Sukhumvit?
There is another thread about the great look of the waitresses working at the lobby lounge!
Great location, girlfriendly, reasonable priced.....

Caronte,

Not exactly an expert on the hotels themselves - more the bars (and restaurants).

I cant really think of much to recommend the Met and I am generally a fan of cool trendy overpriced places (Face, Bed, Sirocco etc.).

If you are into the boutique hotel kinda thing you could try The Davis in soi 24. Reports have been pretty good (there is a small thread about it here), it is reasonably priced, TGF and I would certainly be interested to read a decent FR on the place.
