Guys I've been to Thailand around a dozen times and always had a hotel booking. Next week, I think I'll just wing it and fly in without one. Question is: do they have an accommodation booking desk at the airport after arrivals? You see this all over the world but since I have never needed to use one in BKK I can't say I've noticed one before. Is there one, have any of you used it, is it any good? Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't see a thread on it. Cheers Groover

Hi Groover, was wondering the same thing and found that on a bkk airport web page info : "In Terminals 1 and 2, to either side of the doors through which you just passed, you will find counters exchanging most of the world's major currencies for Thai baht. Operated by Thai banks, their rates are set daily by the government's Bank of Thailand. Directly ahead of you are several counters where you can receive tourism information, book a hotel room, and arrange transportation into the city" As I got some problems with the confirmation delay on the online reservation websites, I just stop to worry about that and will book a room there on my arrival next sunday, hope it is good. else I remember someone mentioned a central booking desk with good prices in sukh area in 1 of the hotel thread on this board but can't find it again

I always prefer to have my booking in advance this way I have a guaranteed place to stay when I arrive. I don't want to waste time at the airport trying to book a hotel when I have places to go and people to see. You can book a hotel right from the airport, but IMO this just adds to the trouble of getting to BKK. Anything I can have pre-prepared before I leave home, I do. Especially when it comes to where I will be staying while in BKK.

I have got a possible hotel and hope that they will trust that I pay on arrival. PW - Thanks for that advice. How long you going to be in town? I am aiming to fly in on saturday or sunday for 1-2 nights and then heading south for the week. Got 2-3 nights back in BKK before I leave around the 15th if you fancy a Chang or six... Groover

Gator - *** but IMO this just adds to the trouble of getting to BKK *** Is it a trouble to go to BKK ? I didn't read anything regarding the taxi issue, rates, etc,... but all I've seen is that the "extrem expensive" way is to use an aiprort limo service which is 1000 bht. Maybe it is really expensive for thailand but compare to the prices here in France and I thing anywhere else it's like 20€ wich is really nothing for a taxi ride, so... Groover - I'll be in BKK from 5th to 10th, in Phuket from 10th to 15th and in BKK again from 15th to 16th, well english is not my native language so I don't understand the expression "if you fancy a Chang or six" but if you mean "let's have a beer somewhere" of course I'm in btw it's my first time in LOS

Few years ago, I checked the hotel prices and they were nothing special.

Actually, the prices are far worse than you can obtain by reserving a room direct with the hotels. In all the years I have been making reservations in Bangkok I never guaranteed one with a credit card. So still many option to go before booking at the airport.

Thanks for that Manuel I'll probably just call a hotel from dubai and make a reservation over the phone if CC is not required (prefer to be a cash man myself). The Grottino is also a very good option thanks to the excellent reports on the site. PW - If you are in BKK early enough on the 5th then i'll be happy to take you out for a few beers although I'll be out of town early on the 6th. It's always a pleasure to show a newbie the sights... Stay away from the booking center at the airport. They will just rip you off. But maybe you want to support a little jerk, who will laugh his ass off about this stupid farangs. Better try the websites at the link section or maybe priceline. Got some awesome deals last holidays (Sheraton, Westin, Intercontinental for about 70$). Have fun out there.
