Just returned from a 3 1/2 week stay in Thailand which included the first 4 nights and the last 3 nights at Novotel Lotus. Paid for a double (2pax) on both bookings thru an online agency. During my initial 4 nights, I barfined and brought home two bargirls for an overnight stay and subsequently they joined me for buffet breakfast the following morning before I dismissed them. In addition, I had a lady friend meet me for breakfast once. The Hotel looked the the way in all three instances and there was no problem. However, the hotel's attitude flipped flopped during my 2nd visit for 3 nights, Nov 27-30. Upon check in, the front desk agent questioned me about my rommate and informed me they would need the passport # of the other person, to which I replied she was Thai and she would be joining me the next day. The next day, I had the same lady friend meet me for breakfast- she had only toast, orange juice and hot water (for tea). The waitress informed me I was to be billed for my friend's breakfast; I replied that I had already paid for 2 people including breakfast. Midway into the breakfast, she brought me a bill for about 550 baht. I got upset and told her that I should not have to pay any extra for my friend's breakfast and if there were to charge me it should only be for the toast, hot water and orange juice as my friend did not partake in the buffet breakfast. Thewaitress brought me a 2nd bill for $117 baht, which I grudgingly accepted as I felt at least the hotel made a compromise. On my last night, I had an excellent session with Dow at Baron's; I invited her to come to my hotel after her work shift for conversation and music and not for boom-boom as I was totally spent and so was she after her work shift. In fact, my intent was to give her an extra $500 baht as a gift for providing me such excellent service. When we came into the hotel lobby, security took her ID card ( a first for me at Novotel) and the hotel clerk advised me that I would be charged a $800baht joiner fee. I argued that she was not staying overnight and just would be visiting me for less than a hour. The argument persisted for about about 5 minutes before they relented and Dow joined me in my room. Needless to say, after about 10 minutes in my room, a hotel clerk called me up and read me the riot again to which I replied that my guest would be leaving within 20 minutes. After some brief conversation and listening to nice Moorlam Music on my Ipod, I gave Dow her gift, took some pictures of her in the area in front of the elevator and escorted her downstairs whereupon she collected her ID and left the hotel. I talked to the hotel clerk again and he stated that the hotel policy was to charge 800 baht for any unregistered guests/visitors after 10:00PM. I thanked him for clarifying the matter and that in the future there would be no misunderstanding; the implication here is that if you bring somebody to your room before 10:00PM, there would be no additional charge. After all this hastle, looks like I will have to look for an alternative to Novotel Lotus on my future trips to Thailand.

No good! The Novotel Lotus on Soi 33 has been my safe haven among Bangkok hotels for years. Excellent location, good rooms, good service and no hassle in bringing a girl back to your room. When you arrive at night they ask your room number, collect her ID and if you are not following her out the next morning will call your room and check if everything is OK. We need some recent updates here please. Hopefully the new policy was a one-off incident.
