I paid for a hotel voucher through the Pattayaland Travel Service, in Pattaya, phone 038-710740-1. I paid 2000.00 baht and was told a deluxe room was made available for me, that the hotel only had a deluxe room available. When I arrived on 16 December 2004 at the Lumpini Pinnacle Hotel, a room was given to me 1311. I was told all was ok. I was surpirised that the room was so small considering it was to be a deluxe room. That evening I went out and asked about a morning wake- up call. The attendant asked if I had paid. I stated that I had paid through a voucher. I asked him to double check-he found my paperwork and said, "no problem, your room is paid." The next morning I went to check out and the cashier told me I needed to pay for the room. I questioned her explaining that I had paid it already. She said that I have not paid it. She had the voucer and told me it was no good, that I had to pay again and to go back to the travel agent for a refund. I ended up paying 3200.00 for the room. I was also given a breakfast voucher and even had to pay for that. I was also asked for my credit card??? I had already paid twice and they wanted my credit card. She said that they would not take any money from it, but that they just wanted the number?? I find the above situation to be very suspicious. Even if the hotel is not at fault, any good hotel would be very concerned that a customer had this occur and would certainly want to communicate with the travel agent who set the customer up? The cashier gave me back all the travel agent documentation so it is obvious that the hotel is not concerned. Because I was told on two earlier occassions that all was ok and that I was paid and then, in the morning, when I am in a hurry to catch a plane they tell me I am not paid, I find that to be wrong and unethical. To have asked for my credit card is also very suspicious. I have used vouchers through agents before and never had such a problem.

I'm sorry to say that at Bht2000, I assume for one night, you were...... screwed. The Hotel's own web-site quotes Bht1760 for a deluxe single on weekdays. The going rate seems to be about Bht1400 and, with a google search, it does go as low as Bht1090 here:http://dragoncastle.net/pinnbook.shtml Billy

not a difficult situation to handle if you keep cool....tell'em to call the tourist police and tell'em you want to get in touch with the TAT...a voucher is a legal document linking the issuing travel agent and the hotel...if the vouchers states that the hotel should bill the travel agent, then you are free&clean. Believe me, no hotels management wants to have the tourist police and the TAT checking on them....

In general, a hotel is not obligated to accept a voucher. But the fact is they accepted your voucher on check-in, so they can't revert afterwards. They should have refused in on check-in, but the staff was probably not aware that the voucher was not valid. It is very difficult to book a hotel with a certain travel agent, part with your money and be sure not to get a dud voucher. Another lesson learnt... always work with large well known travel agencies.
