Cheap and safe. That's all I want. I need a cheap and safe hotel near where the action is. Obviously airconditioning and a private shower would be nice but I don't need a girl friendly hotel as I'll be short timing ladyboys mainly. Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you want to stay in the Sukhumvit area I recommend the Thai House Inn on Suk. Soi 7. Their rates are 550-600 baht per night, without breakfast. The room is small and there's no TV, but it's safe and they have free Internet in the reception/restaurant area. The quieter rooms are toward the back away from the Beergarden. And the hotel is a short walk from the Nana BTS Station.
I also recommend the Sukhumvit Crown Hotel on Suk. 8, next to Lolita's Bar. I think I paid 750 for a room, including breakfast. They have a safe deposit box in the lobby. And again a short walk from the Nana BTS.Station.

you can stay also at the PB Hotel.If you go through the lobby, they offer rooms for 55°-600 bahts (if I remember correctly). Rooms are quite big and have cable TV.

Where is PB?
Thai House is as close as you can get to the action. When you leave the hotel you enter into that mysterious covered connecting alley between the hotel and Beergarden. The alley is full of fortune tellers, food vendors, BGs, fat drunken chain-smoking farangs, karaoke fanatics, and football fanatics. Don't forget the rats.
Suk Crown is a dump, but a clean and safe dump. Close to everything and has alot of history. No hassles and sabai staff. Very 60s. I think it was built during Nam and alot of GI's stayed there as they did in the Miami.

I spent my first night in Rambuttri village inn. 380 per night. Nothing in it except a cold shower, bed and air conditioning. What more could a man want?
Now I need to find a map of this beautiful, electric city so I can write my first field report.
