I have stayed at CITY LODGE SOI 19 many, many times as business brings me in & out of Bangkok. Price is alright, TV sucks but who cares, & the location is great, right next to Robinson, Skytrain, Subway. Last stay, as always, I put my passport & small wallet (inside a travel bag) in the Reception Safety Box. 2 days later I checked out, glanced to see the passport & wallet still intact. They were, and as I have been a guest there many times, I did not open to check the cash. When I got back to my office, I dicovered about 400USD & a 500 EURO note were missing. I have been known to lose track of my USD but I never use the EURO note. It is EMERGENCY USE ONLY. I contacted the AMARI Group & received a very "concerned" reply. That was 3 weeks ago... I have written them several more times but no further reply. Obviously they don't give a damn. It's not their top-end location. Just a word of caution.... next time i'll take my chances with the bargirl in my room.

Maybe they do care, but what exactly can they do if they don't know which employee took it? Rule number 1: Never stay in hotel unless they have in-room safe. I know these are not foolproof either, but better than a reception lock-box. Rule number 2: If you have Traveler Checks stolen or lost, they would be replaced for free.

Yeah, my in room safe got nailed last year when I was at the Queen Victoria Inn on Soi 6. The manager was a big help, 5555. He just looked at me and said..." what do you want me to do ? with a look of total disinterest " Obviously just an employee and not an owner concerned with reputation. He is gone now to his own place down the street. Yes, even the in room safe's are vulnerable. Lesson; Never have everything riding on any one strategic tactic. And have nice color copies of your passport with you at all times (if not the passport itself) to avoid any long unintended departure delays.

The safes are in the closet fastened down. The front desk has the combination to the in room safe. The front desk opens and closes the safe for you, charging 15 Baht each time (totaling 30 Baht). You do not get the combination, to keep it secure only the front desk has the combination.
