I'm passing through BKK for a night, and my SO doesn't know it. I want to book a decent hotel near NEP online, but want to pay for the room in cash when I get there, ie, I don't want a credit card charge that has a Bangkok hotel on it. Is there a generic booking site I can use to do this, or will some hotels hold a CC number to keep a reservation, but won't actually charge the card unless you don't show up?

Most hotels I've stayed at in BKK hold the room with your credit card and make no charges until you checkout. You can then settle with cash at checkout. Majestic Suites is this way for example.

The Dynasty on Soi Nana does the same,at the moment they charge 1090 bht.
I stayed there the other week and settled with cash.

A credit card will not be charged unless you authorize it.
you can book any hotel with a credit card and pay with cash when checking out. The card is generally swiped at check-in for authorization up to a pre-determined amount to cover incidentals and act as an insurance measure for the hotel.
just make sure you pay the entire bill at check out with cash and u will be okay.

The only way you would have ur credit card charged prior to check-in is if you do a pre-paid online booking or you pay a travel agent with your credit card. Avoid pre-paying with your card and u will be okay.

Nana Hotel doesn't ask for credit card details when you make an online reservation on their web page. Can`t get much closer to NEP.

The Swiss Grottino, no credit card to hold the room, and you can pay cash. No record what so ever, or a chance of one.

Nana Hotel took an imprint of my Credit card on arrival, but gave it backto me to destroy when I settled in cash on checkout. Nothing seen on my statement.

Not to get off the subject, but I just made reservations for a deluxe room in the Nana. Always have stayed at the Marriott or Landmark befpre, but something weird is happening and prices have skyrocketed for mid-March. An $80 priceline bid didn't even get a hit, when before I got a room at the Marriott for around $60. Called the Landmark and they don't even have a standard room available due to large tour groups. Anyway, I have read both pros and cons and lots about roaches at the Nana. The deluxe rooms are only on floors 3 and 5 so getting a room far from the roach habitats seems problematic. What was your experience?
