Tonight went to Faith Club in soi 23 and it was closed. Then went to soi 24 -don't remember the name, but those trendy (mostly Thai crowd) places by the Davis, and they were all closed.

Then went to Escudo and after checking the id of local girl who was with me and another foreign friend, they asked us for the passport? Damn! I have only been asked for my passport once in BKK and it was by police during APEC. Never at a club. They didn't let us in.

Ended up settling for Q bar.

Is there something else new going on? Or was this just pure bad luck?

Hey darling... FB here... me and RTB sharing same PC... just like we share girls....

I took RTB there, no ID, (Escudo) same problem, but we got management down, and they let babyface in (even gave us VIP cards).... most thai places are checking id... even invalids in wheelchairs... better to have id at 1am than all shops closed at midnight....

Not bad luck... in Smileland we call it bad timing!

Are you telling me that some places have already been ordered to close by midnight!? I went there before 1am.

BTW, Be careful all this sharing of things doesn't make you too fond of each other.

Didn't have much time to feel old -was there for less than a minute and didn't make it inside. But somehow felt unwanted.

It's been policy by the Escudo group... They've also done that at their other bar - 2 Saleung for quite a while. I've got a Thai driver's license which I can use as ID but several friends of mine have gotten in trouble as they didn't have their passports on them and we had to go.

One friend of mine can speak fluent Thai (perfect) and was rejected at the door one day. He asked the bouncer why they had the policy and was told that it's a police requirement. Well my friend goes off to the nearby Thonglor police station and tells them he left his passport at home and can they help out. A copper says he will and my friend slips him 500 Baht for the trouble.

The cop arrives and tells the bouncer to let them in. Turns out that the bouncer is also a cop, from a different district. A big argument started between the two as the bouncer told the cop that he had the right to demand to see 'bat prachachon' from Thais and proper ID from foreigners. It was getting nowhere but the copper wasn't backing down or he'd lose face. So he called in two more cops. By this time my friend thought he had worn out his welcome and slinked away, pretending to make a phone call... Heheh....

Last time I went to BED with a couple of friends from out of town they were asked for their passports, which they had left in the hotel- so we wound up going somewhere else. Pain in the ass but not much that can be done about it I guess....

Cheers!

overkill? or INO "wuuh"....

Everyone gets their IDs checked. Thai and Farang alike. IMHO, not a big deal at all if an establishment wants to see passports for foreigners. It's the owners perogative (and an intelligent one at that). Most of the bouncers may not be able to read english anyways. Also, with numerous foreigners from all different countries, you think that they could differentiate what a real driver's/ID card from a fake that could be bought at KS road?

this strict I.D. checking thingy is that something new or just someone who haven't been to trendy thai pubs yet?
I mean I used to do fine with my euro drivers license as late as january this year at 2 Saleung & other places like narcissos etc.
maybe the new hotbed for terrorists is thonglor/sukhumvit clubs or so they try to prevent
