RCA is not the best haunting ground unless you do not come with thai friends or speak good thai. But if you want to see a lot of normal and younger thai people getting nasty from drinking and other substances a visit tehre is always worth an experience. Try the better frequented places like Route 66 or Morgan.
Personally got some girls out of RCA already but certainly nearly impossible when you come alone and do not speak reasonable Thai.

Agreed with griffin. The local Thai bars in RCA, Ekkamai and Thong Lor are definitely tough for a falang to meet people unless you speak a bit of Thai. I personally don't like the way the Thai bars are set up where everyone just stands or sits around a table. I'm more used to the Western bars where people get up and mingle about with their drinks. It could be because of the damn bottle of whisky that you're stuck with...guess you have to stay wherever your whisky bottle goes. Haven't found a Thai bar where people actually mingles about...Q Bar and Bed are the only ones that allows mingling but I feel like I'm back in the States at these two places. However, having said this, you still have to check out these local Thai bars if you enjoy having a drink and checking out awesome eye-candies.

That's because most locals already have their social groups. However there is definitely some mingling going on though, especially in the more crowded places. Route 66 and Morgan have long been a hunting ground for 20-30 year old playboy type characters. It generally only takes a "chon kaew" (toast) to get things started. If the gals aren't interested, they'll simply stay out of your SAM zone.
After awhile, you'll get a feel for who's working and who isn't. Plenty of working girls who are here "after work." And plenty won't tell you about their "job" so those who need that ego boost can pretend they are picking up "normal" girls. Will leave that to the board members to debate about how realistic the odds are of picking up "normal" girls is.

ive heard its quiet there.closing times,what its like in the week and at weekends,etc.is it worth me (33 young trendy,speak some thai) heading out there.dance fever/morgans/route.

RCA is cleaning up its acts a bit. 3 new fancy bars opened up next to Route and looks like Route is going thru some remodeling too. Think they're going for the Thong Lor crowd with the 3 new trendy bars. Will report back as soon as I check them out on a Friday.
