I have honestly never been able to figure out the "accounting" in Piano. I can go for 5 hours, drink like mad, have 4 girls drinking with me and several friends and it was only a few thousand Baht. Then I go, stay reasonably sober, have only one girl and some snacks and it is time to renew my membership!
I really don't think I am getting ripped off as I have been going there for quite a while and the mamasan is a friend of a good friend of mine. But I have no clue what I am paying for and when.
Its kinda like income taxes!

Can someone shed some light on this?
I've been to Piano two times before to look around the place and check out the quality of the girls - just out of curiosity. On both times I enjoyed the atmosphere and always planned to come back.
Went there last week and told the sales manager that I was interested in membership as I was returning to BKK in November for a long stay. Everything was explained. I asked her if I wanted to chat with one of the girls now, how much?
330 baht for 40 minutes.
Does that include a drink for her?
Yes.
I'd seen a pretty girl across the bar and invite her over for a drink. We get on fine and have a couple of beers each. She's from Chiang Rai and speaks okay English. And she is VERY pretty. She gives me her mobile # as she wants to meet me for coffee tomorrow after her English lesson. I'm getting a bit wary because this all seems too easy.
It's nearly coming up to the end of my 40 minutes and I get up to go to the gents. When I come back I tell her that I have to leave (I have a date with someone else) and I need the chek bin. But she says that she's just ordered some food for us.
What food?
Some fruit.
But I don't want any fruit. I'm really sorry but I need to leave. She shruggs and calls out to the sales manager. We continue to chat whilst I wait for the bill. This seems to be taking a very long time.
Then a bowl of fruit arrives. It's massive. Then the bill arrives. It's massive.
It's 2400 baht. I had a figure in mind of about 1300 so I question it, very politely. Suddenly two big Thai guys appear shining torches in my face and the manager comes over. The girl sitting next to me is shrinking in her chair.
There seems to have been a slight misunderstanding. I thought the sales manager had told me that the lady charge includes one drink. But no. Lady charges are 330 baht for each 40 minutes. Lady drinks are separate - 300 baht each (for a beer?). I thought I had been chatting for less than 40 minutes but apparently it went slightly over because of the food that I didn't order. So there are two 330 baht lady charges. And there's 4 drinks at 300 baht each. And of course there's the food to pay for. And then there's tax and service charges.
Well, this could turn into a bit of a scene and I feel slightly intimidated. But I stay cool and keep my hands on my lap. I have no intention of reaching into my pocket any time soon.
After a couple of polite exchanges the manager says that she can make an adjustment for me. A few minutes later the bill comes back with 500 baht deducted. Where did the 500 baht come from? And if the bill was correct in the first place, why did they back down?
I decide to cut my losses and argue no further. I pay the bill and leave. Even the slice of pineapple that I take with me cannot hide the sour taste I have in my mouth.
I really wanted to like this place.

The bill was not out of line. This sounds to me like a genuine misunderstanding. The source of the problem was perhaps that the charge for 40 minute period of lady's time is confusingly referred to as a "drink", but it has nothing to do with what the lady consumes, which is always extra. All clubs I have been to that have a time charge work this way.

Next time you go,ask for Kim (mamasan). She speaks english well and won't rip you off. But I have never figured out the accounting as mentioned previously. went last week with a bunch of people. My membership needs renewing but they never asked. check bin time comes and it was BT5000 for a lot of booze, many ladies (no food). I have no clue how it added up to that.
Don't let that experience ruin it for you. IMO, it is still one of the best clubs in BKK for sanook!

Okay, thanks for those comments.
Maybe this time it was six of one and half a dozen of the other. But the girl was very cheeky by ordering food without my consent. Her only motive for doing this was to pad the bill and increase her own commission. I don't think she was too concerned with my daily nutritional intake. A very shortsighted attitude if I'm planning to spend many $$$ there in the future. And it shows no respect for me.
It's not the amount that matters. It's the principle. I've heard many good things about this place and was genuinely interested in becoming a regular.
Perhaps I'll give Piano one more shot. 9:30 - 10:00 seems like a good time to go. Any particular nights to avoid?

I don't believe the girls get any commission on food. Nonetheless, she shouldn't have ordered the fruit without your consent.
The food is actually very good at Piano. Not cheap, but generous portions and quite tasty.
I would say 10pm was a little late, in that the available selection of girls may well be quite limited especially on a busy night. 9.30 is good. Friday/Saturday and party nights tend to be very busy.
One thing to bear in mind is that the prettiest girls tend to be booked in advance. The trick is to go a few times and to keep your eyes open; when you see a girl you like the look of, ask your sales person or a waiter to find out their name. Then the next time you go, ring your sales person early in the evening or the previous day and ask them to book the girl for you.
Do give it another shot. I think it's the best club in Bangkok. The quality of girls is amazing. Many of them are not only extremely pretty but also very nice.

All the sales ladies at Piano are excellent from my experience so maybe next time just tell them you have $$$ amount left in your wallet and ask them to keep track of the bill so you don't go over. However, non-members get a hefty bill without the discounts. Was there yesterday when it rained like a mother. Spoke to a sales lady about bringing visiting friends in who does not want a membership but wants to just purchase a few bottles. I think she said it's about 4500 Bath for a bottle of Chivas and PR girls are 330 for 40 minutes. Members get a 20% discount on girls. Since I'm a longtime fan of Piano, she said she'll give me the bottles for 2800 if I buy it under my friend's membership. Numbers are not exact, tried to get the slip of paper she wrote all the figures down on but it was on the back of a bill and she needed it.
Also, new tall cute young thing working there now...19 years old and quite friendly with the guest from what I saw. Cannot remember her name now but will never forget the body....

Ah c'mon Jack,
Kim sometimes sh_t when have to order / request some girls. She is good when in give bill charge, quite carefull. But for giving some girls sometimes I have to call directly to the girls phone number. Because she don't have many stock of girls. Sometimes she borrow from other mamasan. But well I like Kim, because she is so funny.

I prefer to go early and go directly to the bar for my own perusal. I generally do better and know enough of the girls to decide.
If you speak Thai, the selection presented will always be better. If you don't speak Thai but don't mind if the girl doesn't speak english, again, better selection. If english is the requirement, it will be hit or miss sometimes.
In the end, even when I don't get the most beautiful girl there, 99% of the time I have a good time. To me, Piano is like your favorite neighborhood bar. You can hangout with your friends and act stupid. They usually have good music and then add to it that there are beautiful women that will enjoy your company for the evening. What can be better!
