MattBK1 you better wake up - or go to bed at 3am. Im sure that 99 % of the tourists in Thailand are sleeping peacefully at that time... the missing 1 % are those people who both Mr. TaxSin and the new Military Gvt. don't really want to see...
We're not living in times where moral loosens and fun is ruling.. and I'm not just thinking of Thailand or even Muslim countries - it's the same all over the world.. US, Asia, Europe, u name it, almost everywhere. It's just the opposite of the 70ies... Sexual Revolution - is dead and gone...

I party hard,,, if you ever meet me I am 17 years old but haven't been asked for ID for the lat 25 years,,,LOL.
But 3am,, that sounds fair, after that I,m just looking for a cab back to the hotel.
1am on the other hand NOT fair,, party has just warmed up. I guess what is really needed is for the good?? /naughty places to open a little earlier. I 'm happy to start at say 6pm and finish 3am.

I was in Patong several times in the days of enforced 1am closing and since that meant you MUST be closed by 1am - things started to wind-down from around mid-night. You'd see middle aged couples walking around wondering what to do now. Hopeless.
I know two travel agents that were - and as far as I know still are - advising clients in Oz to go to Bali instead - better to risk being blown up than bored to death - that says it all.
I can't speak for BKK but Phuket has suffered due to the moral crusade and early closures of the last few years - and a bad name is a lot harder to get rid of than a good one. The tsunami just disguised the damage already done. Enjoy.

I dont entirely disagree with your comments.
but when you speak of BKK, in any given night how many "tourist" not farangs who live and work here or the models that drink for free are actually out on a given night. Now mind you most hit the more farang friendly places with places on Suk soi 11 and perhaps Astra. b/c Slim, Route, Nanglen, escudo etc have barely 10 farangs each inside, and most are are working or living here. total it up? does it break 200? doesnt seem to be the amazing number compared to the amount of Thais that are out, this isnt a year-round rave party....

Well, boy, if that is the last thing you need to see... What if, as some of the people on the Forum undoubtedly are, one is already "middle aged"? I'm not yet, but eventually will be if my aerobic excercise program of constant intercourse holds out for more years. Would you settle for a half "middle aged" and half "young" (thai girl) couple? That should balance it out nicely.
As for the subject of closing times re-emerging it's ugly head, I couldn't care less. Reality is, if I'm up and out til 1am, I should probably be in bed anyway, so I ain't going to do myself any more good staying out later than that. The quicker the FL's get out on the streets for my picking, the happier I am. Why don't they start coming out at 10am, I'd be even more delighted. Early to bed, early to rise... hehe.
