Ought to be safe enough MrJoe although you might consider cutting para 2. The officials who would ingratiate themselves with the Wang, have many eyes like flies and big ears like elephants.

Oldhand - "BoomARang, whilst I have not been here fifteen years (quite) the youngmen from this family have a HISTORY, rumor has it the Crown Prince had some words with them and their fath]er about the antics they were getting upto." First of all, I was not basing my post on your or Sauron's relative lengths of time "in country". Sauron and I have disagreed on another subject where our respective time in country MAY have been diametrically opposed but at the same time, he saw what he did from his EXPERIENCE as I did from mine. Second of all, history can be a double edged sword. The good side of one's history can be memorialized but at the same time, potential negative aspects of one's life can be magnified or taken out of context to overshadow the positive. I'm reticent to mention these but two cases that come to my mind are Nixon, in the US and Tokugawa, in Japan. Granted, this specific case may not be of the same magnitude as either of those I have mentioned but the later of the two does have emotional and practical significance for me. All I am saying is that the situation as reported has more holes in it than a knitted sweater and that some existing situations, whether true or not, can be used to expand or support further reporting of similar situations. Personally, from the media reporting alone, I think the guy is innocent or at least there is MUCH more to the story than has either been reported or has been allowed to be reported. I still don't trust Thai media for their in depth reporting ability, not that I think badly of them but more so I think badly of their maturity as a institution as well as their freedom from influence. But, in the end, I agree, we need to wait and see.

Sauron - I'm sorry I am so far behind in this topic but you guys type too damn fast! ;) "Nepotism, I think is the word you are reaching for," Yes, that was it! Thank you! "BTW the cops who chose to fight with the Yubamrung brothers and their own police friends, formerly worked for Chalerm, their father, former Minister of Justice, former Deputy Minister of Interior." I thought that this was reported, although in sidebar and not as directly linked to the MoI. I don't remember the publication but at the time, I thought it strange no one else picked up on the connection. "And my issue with oldhand is not the merits of the matter, to which I doubt he is privy beyond the poison pen of the media. His post had nothing to do with that, he gratuitously insulted me and my friends and prejudged the matter without recourse to the facts." No, I understand. Currently there are no "merits of the matter" that are publicly known. That was my point. As far as carrying those further to the point of being an insult to you, water on the back of a duck, let it fall and flow away. "Understand thine enemy but never ever let thine enemy cause you anger." (Sun Tzu) I do not presume to advise you but instead hope to share what I have learned. "What an asshole!" Are all assholes alike? Should I assume that since I have also been labeled an "asshole", which more than likely fits me, that I am the same as Oldhand or are we different "flavors" of asshole? ;)

The Thai press is not that much more immature as an institition than say, The Washington Post, it's just that so many people think the Post is more 'mature' and trustworthy than it really is. The BANGKOK Post by comparison, used to be a lot better but recent ownership shifts and changes in staffing have rendered it totally unintelligible. It used to not be that way if you knew the "code" it was written in, now monkeys are at the keyboards and the editors have lost the encryption key.

You were (by my lights) a five minute asshole. In five minutes I forgot about it. Hot flame burns out faster. Oldhand, from my present vantage, seems like an asshole from the Big Bang to the cold death (entropy wise) of the universe.

Sauron - "The Thai press is not that much more immature" Accepted and agreed. My poor choice in words. "Asshole" - Explanation assimilated. No wonder I'm feeling constipated! I prefer to let the shit flow freely!

ah ... good to see a nice friendly chat going on .... just to revert to Club 20 ... thanks badfish for the extra info, I did not see ms jean, - perhaps she has been replaced by my contact, ms tak ... Tak is definately a "mamasam' - although in a more discreet way, she is a decent sort herself, about 30, slim with quite long, currently the trendy red coloured, hair - she told me not to worry re membership etc, but that the best deal drink wise was top open a bottle, at around 2,500 bt. Tak has only just started there, hence her call to me/ my visit - not normally my style of place - but nonetheless appears it is certainly worth a visit by those who like this type of setting -

I don't know why the girls do it. maybe when they change the job, they will change the number. in 3 years I had 4 little nokias stolen already, usually the number is in the name of a TG, so I cannot keep the chip unless the girl requests it personally. but I alway lost touch with them in the meantime, and could not contact them (guess why??). rtb

Hi Thaiprivateeye, Happy to see this topic back to a worthwhile and friendly discussion... Anyhow, I spoke with my friends in Bangkok the other night. I asked one of them about Tak because I never met her before. She is new there, she did not replace Jean, Jean was a dancer. Tak works in sales, same as my friend Pim. Tak was a former mamasan at her last place of work, actually had quite a few women working for her before. She and Pim are good friends. I know from many sources that you cannot buy out the girls there. Although if you give a girl enough money, she might just go out with you. I've known Japanese businessmen who will tip the girls 10k baht (they drive me crazy cuz they are breaking the system) and not even be able to get a phone number. But it totally depends on the girl and who you are. Some of the gals there are actually really good girls just trying to earn a living... But I'd say you can take out a good 60-75% of them. That's why Orbit is catching on, because they cater more to their customers. Everytime I see falang at Club 20, I laugh to myself cuz the gals there are so smart they end up taking all their money. That's why it's good to know someone there... Next time you're there, ask your friend to show you Pun. But I already warned you about her, I still got her phone number in my wallet. Oh, I don't think anyone's mentioned membership prices there. I'm pretty sure it's 20k and you get 12 bottles, probably Johnny Walker. I remember it was very reasonable.
