The above comments about bangkokrecorder and Glow are interesting and I think they perhaps show why Glow is not as busy as their well meaning owners would like it to be.
I remember when Glow opened (was it really a whole year ago...?) and I got the impression that it was going to be a "chill out lounge". What I have experienced is in fact that it is like a mini Q bar but without the people. Just like Q bar it emphasises good music and good drinks and it does deliver on those two points.
I hate to categorise people but for the sake of argument here, I think there are "clubbers" (the bangkokrecorder readers) and "players" (the bkktonite scoundrels). Of course there will be some overlap between these two groups but generally I think they head to different types of bars. For example, most clubbers will go to Astra, Narcissus (parties) and Bedsupperclub. However, I will also add Q bar to my list of possible venues if I am on the prowl (and looking to catch fish with a shotgun in a fish tank).
The secret to Q bar's success is that it somehow manages to get "clubbers" and "players" and others to go along. The clubbers generally go for the parties and special djs and I think we all know why the players go there.
Glow is not busy because it can't decide whether its a clubber or player place and it hasn't been able to "do a Q bar" and combine both. Perhaps Glow is too small (although I reckon I've spilled approx 10% of my whisky being knocked over by you twats near the bar area downstairs in Q bar). Perhaps its location is a bit too hidden (I've given directions many times to lost mates on their way there).
What Bangkok lacks is not locations for clubbers or players (I know, I know, there can't be too many...) but the sort of bar you can go to after work for a drink or at the weekend at 8-9pm before you head off to another club. Personally, what I would like to see Glow become is something a bit like Koi on soi 20 (but without the free-loading models and manager in hurrendous silk attire). However, for this sort of place, location is the key and it is deeply disheartening to see a rip-off joint like Titanium on soi 22 often with more customers than Glow. Maybe Glow wants to be a club too - and not just a place to go for a pre-club drink but that maybe why its not as busy as it should be.
You don't see Astra trying to get people in early (i.e. before 11) because they play to their strengths (whilst being assisted by a later closing time of 2am). I have said it before, but I think that if a place is not busy and its playing banging house, then it feels even emptier. If a place is not busy but playing chilled out music, then it feels relaxing and you don't care that there are not many people there.

Bangkokrecorder- After spending the last half hour perusing to see what these guys had to say about Glow, I came to the conclusion a lot of these negative guys seemed to be club snobs who were comparing everything to their club scene back in EU. Maybe they don't live in BKK, because I did not hear them offering any better places to go (Like there are a lot of clubs in BKK that fit this mold). When in BKK, accept you are in BKK.
ASTRA- As changover mentioned. I stayed there for 30mins a few weeks ago, and I don't think I saw more then 20 thai people in the place. It seems like a Farang only place.
2am- Astra does not have the advantage on GLOW in this. I have been in GLOW many times still partying till 3-4. Once after 2am the Police outside even said to turn the music up. You won't get that at Qbar or Bed.

The crowd depends an awful lot on what DJ is on, or on who is organizing the night.
I have seen the Thai:farang ratio at 90:10 there. (Which I really like.) But the Thais who do go to ASTRA are of course the ones with a bit of spare change in their pockets.

Yes it was a pretty dreadful night at Astra when I went there. Not only was it 98% Farang, but they were playing some horrible 90's music ie Nirvana etc. Not crazy about how that club is set up either. Personally, if it is a pain in the ass to get a drink in a place, I am not happy.
I guess I have gotten to accustomed to Good Thai Service.
This was the second time I went there, as I was kinda forced to by a friend wanting to meet another friend there. I wrote that place off the first time when I went to see Carl Cox there and also stayed there for 30 mins.

There is no shortage of clubs in Bangkok. You can go out every night till late and get plenty of good music and hot babes.
You got all the G Clubs to get some drinks and flirt with the Dancers. Most of these girls are craving for some good time clubbing whenever they can. You got the whole RCA. Flix, Slim, Time out, Ezze,...... too many. And man when closing time its like a candy store. It always amaze me when I see these cute girls with their boyfriend (or Gik, whatever) smiling and winking at you. Some will even get a friend of them bring you her number..... You can you butt grabbed in Flix by a hottie on the dancefloor any week day (Hate it on WE). As for Qbar, unless its a lucky day, the only nice girls in there are the staff. And if you still want it then Patpong, Boss,.....
My only problem is to wake up in the morning when clubbing become an everyday routine.... Loving it.....
Btw, Couple of places are set to be opening by september. One will be pretty big and should take the space left by Mystique (Not the location though).
