I have just received an e-mail from someone I know in Bangkok. Apparently my favourite 'Rao Bar' is closed.
I used to visit this place when stayed with friends in Sarinakarin. I loved the place ! He went all the way to Sarinakarin only to find the whole street shut up ! The taxi driver then convinced him to go to 'Star-Dust' near the World Trade Centre (obviously a kick back) - Lousy joint ! Average women and a waiter who wanted a tip almost before he served the drink ! My contact was not best pleased, he didn't like the shifty looking farangs in there either ! Drank up and left.
Has the Rao Bar moved ?

'Star Dust' was the place with the shifty farang.
It's near the World Trade Centre.
Taxi driver wanted to take my contact to some massage parlour or other when he kept saying,"I want to go to SarinaKharin ! Rao Bar - big sign with 'Rao' in red !"
Apparently the taxi driver was pleased when they found the place all shut up ! "We go 'Star-Dust' now plenty good girls, Nana no good not check lady?"

Srinakharin area just before the McDonalds and the tall Floraville apartments. I know people who used to live in Floraville. New Petchburi Road and keep going. Just after the Mercedes showroom.
Loads of new roadworks there now. Probably that's why it is shut.

My contact only went the once. I believe it was a Thursday night, last week in June. He was most upset as there was aparticular girl he wanted to meet.
I used to love the place but have not been there for a long while.

correction,
The RAO bar I went to recently was on Pahon Yothin, well, just off Pahon Yothin in some sort of shopping center
not too far up (North) from RatchaYothin intersection
but,,, I've certainly seen signs for RAO on Srinakarin Road, as recently as last Monday eve
I assume they are starting new branches

Yes, Pattanakarn Road an extension of New Petchburi ?
I think the area is Suang Luan ? Srinakarin is the nearest I could remember. I know a Mercedes showroom is almost next door. My contact said he couldn't work out why he could not see the word 'Rao' in Thai in its usual bright red neon sign.
Very successful place. You don't close a successful place unless it has to be moved ?
Glad to hear that it is still open and a few others are joining it.
I remember there being some quite good karaoke bars in the Srinakarin area. Mainly for Thais. Also some pretty good seafood restaurants.
2001 was there year that I used to go a lot.
