sad news the grace hotel coffee shop was raided by the police the last 2 days! the men in brown were checking ID's and ordered the management only to serve non-alcoholic drinks!
needless to say that it is dead empty now and not that booming as before! so there goes another fine venue and institution of bangkok down the drain!
hopefully this is only temporarely as there are some local elections in town, so a law and order campaign might suit well! -> nana and cowboy have been enforced targets the last 10 days as well!
i really hope that this is not the end to grace afterhour fun!
if so, well at least i get home earlier these days!
P.S. and there is still the siam hotel!!!

- annoying for sure, but you find most of the freelancers adapt, and just start going out earlier, figure on Soi 7 Beer Garden, Ambassador Beer Garden and even Thermae to pick up a bit of trade ......

no generally not! they are only after thais under the age of 20! usually they do not bother farangs. the only time when i saw the police giving a hard time to a farang (besides the usual money for some so called traffic faults) was when the raided places for drugs. i have actually seen a lot of farangs going to pee for the police already!
but apart from that farangs aren't the target!

eeoh that gives me such an errie feeling... The pee test wasnt a reality as far as I saw in 2001... police state-ism gives me the blues..

was in q-bar and also ministry of sound! they took some farangs out who seemed or looked like taking to much substances / medicine before! i was just drunk so no pee for me!

I guess it boils down to a matter of how one conducts themselves.. Like how is it that the cops knew who was drunk and who was high; who should be hasled and piss tested and who not??
It at least makes me feel alot better as I am low-pro cool anyway, and have always had friendly exchanges with brown/blacks so far... although I always preface not to interact with police if I dont have to, but who doesnt. 555

usually they do a screening into your eyes with a lamp or torch, then they can at least guess also who smells like alcohol and who doesn't that much!
once again dress well as i have never seen any well dressed farang being hassled by the administration!
